Shutter problem?

->> I think I already know the answer to this question, but please check the picture on the link given below. Did I blow the shutter on my 1D MKIIn? Unfortunately, I lost a lot of shots from this morning's Instructional League baseball game. But if there's a silver lining in this cloud, the really important shots were taken either earlier in the day or with another camera. So the day wasn't a total loss.

->> You correctly diagnosed that one, Bill. That looks exactly like the images from my MKII from both times i've blown the shutter. I am expecting it back from CPS early next week. It only cost me $247 including shipping. Sorry about your bad luck.

| ->> Update on this thread --- I sent the camera off to Canon on Monday. This afternoon I got an email that said the repairs would start today. The amount owed by me was given as $0.00. I've had the camera for a year and a half, so it's out of warranty. Is there, by any chance, a longer warranty period for the shutter? I had about 89,000 actuations on it when the shutter blew. Did I miss something in my warranty info, or did Canon goof and just give me an early Christmas present? |

->> Bill,
I'm pretty sure the MK IIn is guaranteed to either 100k or 200k shutter actuations so if it blew at 89,000 that's why the no charge.
Canon is good :-)

| ->> The shutter on the Mark IIn is rated too 200,000, it is not warranted to that point so be sure to thank the nice folks at CPS for doing you a big favor. |

->> My MKIIN shutter went out @ 65k. The camera was a month out of warranty. I sent the body to Canon Irvine along with a note containing some strong language concerning my discontent over the situation. Canon replaced the shutter and cleaned the camera up nicely. I guess if you state your case and express your concerns over QC w/Canon you might get it replaced N/C.

->> Yamil:
Bill didn't say anything about his camera being a refurb. If you are not a member of CPS (And sometimes even if you are) you have to do a little arm twisting. You are in the minority with your refurb and most shutter failures out of warranty are not honored unless the owner presses the issue.
Judging from Bill's second post, Canon may be easing up on this policy a bit, I hope.
