->> Hmm, Maybe I'm confused on this...
I just made a custom site through photoshelter spending lots of time and money. I launch next week. Are they now competing with me? For example, if someone searches 'surfing' will it include my images or just the images in their special archive?
Is the goal to raise the level of images? To compete with corbis, etc.?
I do like that the pricing level is maintained, but concerned about the decrease in focus on the original photoshelter service/archives.
Someone straighten me out here. |

->> David-
I don't think there will be a decrease in the focus of the "Classic" PhotosShelter...it appears to me that Collection will be BETTER images (a virtual agency if you will) with higher standards.
Right now...ANYONE can pay their monthly fee and archive images on Photoshelter...so you may or may not find QUALITY images. With PS Collection, the quality of images will be much higher...this editors won't have to wade through crap to find the image they need.
"images accepted by a team of professional photo editors" means better quality images...
"To submit images for inclusion in the Collection, photographers must fill out a brief application and upload three to ten images for evaluation by PhotoShelter’s editors. If approved, the photographer will be able to submit additional images for consideration"
I'm sure the guys at PS are busy getting ready for their Town Hall meeting in NY...but will chime in when they get a free moment...

Will this be limited to just "Stock" photos or will "breaking news/sports" also be accepted?
Just trying to get more info.

->> The New York City Photography 2.0 Town Hall Meeting was well organized and extremely entertaining.
Speaker Chase Jarvis brought a loose style while giving excellent advise - and did not suck (you had to be there.)
The other speakers were all concise and shared their preferences in dealing with photographers.
For those of you wondering if you should attend the upcoming 2.0 events, let me tell you this - it's not your typical seminar with drawn out sessions. The afternoon flew by and was packed with information from successful workers in our business.
The ending round table discussion was simply a flash-fire Q & A session loaded with info you can use.
Having recently exited the newspaper biz for a gig on my own -
I feel I'm a step ahead of where I was yesterday.
The announcement of the new Photoshelter Collection beta along with the plan of a $1 million intro/advertising campaign was icing on the cake.
Great job Allen and Grover!
ps - more than 500 attended this event. |

YOU GUYS (AND GIRLS) ROCK!!!!!
This sounds like a great way to let photographers get ahead a little bit. I can see this taking off fairly quickly, good luck and please keep us posted on everything that you are doing. |

->> I've been playing with it online for a little bit now and it's great. Very easy to use and straight-forward.
I think its going to be a huge success. PhotoShelter has always paid close attention to the needs of the photographer, I feel this is exactly what the market needs right now.
Great work guys! |

->> This is what I was hoping for with Photoshelter. Almost! I was expecting a more proactive appraoch to the sales bit, and Photoshelter have delivered. And I am glad there will be editors editing, so the quality of the site is assured.
However: after editing, captioning, keywording and uploading approx 2000 images to my personal archive I didn't expect having to do some of it all over again.
Many of my images I can simply upload as directed. They are all done in folders on my computere. But many pictures have been given extra information or keywords through batch actions on the Photoselter site. So they will first have to be selected and downloaded from my site, then uploaded to the new site, using a different program. With the ability to simply share images to a Virtual Agency within Photosehelter, I am surprised there is no similar snappy way to get my images onto PhotoShelter marketplace.
Perhaps it is coming? |

Likewise I have been on my "old" personal archive, but am unable to find any new buttons/links for me to send images to the new site, as I would to Sportsshooter VA or similar. |

Am I the only one having problems uploading? I'm getting DBQueryErr error messages on every file. |

He said the new collection side of Photoshelter is in beta and a simple transfer from your personal Photoshelter account is coming soon. |

| ->> I was there yesterday in NYC too. Great venue for a meeting. The Fillmore East has some classic rock performance images on the walls to see during the breaks in the meeting. Fortunately the Mandy Moore concert was the following day. Chase Jarvis was an excellent speaker and opinionated (in a good way). With around 600 in attendance, it shows that a well edited collection can create a powerhouse of stock images. I don't see this as being a live news competitor of wire services at this time, but we will see as it evolves. Kudos to the PS people. Well done. |

->> Hi Folks. We're getting amazing feedback from people already. Those of you who have been sending us notes -- thanks! The staff was here in the PhotoShelter office today working on stuff.
Remember to send us questions directly instead of posting it here in this message board. You'll always get a much quicker response that way.
Here's a few answers to some of the questions I am seeing in this thread:
1) Transferring files directly from a PhotoShelter Personal Archive to The PhotoShelter Collection is coming soon (could be within the next few weeks). It will include the ability to send all the updated metadata for those people who like to do captioning and keywording in PhotoShelter.
2) If you are getting a "DBQueryErr" you should send in a report using the contact form within The PhotoShelter Collection area. Some of these errors were happening early this morning as they were still putting the site live and have since been fixed.
3) Jack - that is correct. There is no Photo Mechanic upload, but you can still upload to your PhotoShelter Personal Archive using Photo Mechanic, and when the direct transfer feature is added in a few weeks, you can do a huge copy all at once.
4) Eric - There are several tabs along the top, and depending on where your images are in the approval process, they could be in a different tab. If you upload an image and it's not in any of those tabs, you should alert the staff by sending a note directly.
5) Mitch - did you catch the picture near the 2nd floor bar of Courtney Love, Michael Stipe, and Marilyn Manson? That was my favorite one. |

Mitch - I was thinking the exact same thing, and I've come to the firm conclusion that she looks better in that photo than she does today. (I got a second opinion on that too...) |

Hopefully they will have more info on this subject. It sounds very interesting and perhaps more of what I thought belonging to the 'SportsShooter VA' on Photoshelter would be. I was a little dissapointed that there was not a little more editing and marketing of the images on there. |

As far as the videos - We have a whole series planned as Grover stated. Some are in the can - and hours more tape are on the way. I have lots of video to edit and will be doing so over the next couple of weeks so stay tuned!!!
