->> My guess would be the start of a blown shutter - it would be from the shutter blades not closing completely/fast enough.

->> Worth- that is most definitely a blown shutter. I have had frames look exactly like that with film cameras shooting chrome and with a digital camera. Brian is correct. You will need a new shutter.
A piece of the shutter does not close fast enough (because it is broken)- thus severely over exposing a part of the frame- making it go white. |

->> Exact same thing happened recently to my Mark II, Canon replaced the shutter and cost a little under $250 through CPS.

->> Definitely a faulty shutter. See how it's bright at one side of the frame (I know the image is vertical) and non-existent at the other side? That's indicative of a faulty shutter.

->> Oh, yeah, does THAT look familiar! How old is your MkIIIn? CPS replaced my shutter for free under warranty back in June as it was less than one year old. Only had 29K actuations on it, too.

->> I just blew a shutter out in my Mark II a couple nights ago during the Astros-Cubs game and shipped it to Canon yesterday ( I figured out I had shot about 278 Astros games since Sept. 2004 when I bought it-not including extra off field events and other non baseball things I shoot. I figured it was time for a blow out ). Good thing the Astros are in last place right now. I had to dig out my old 1D for last nights game. It was like going back in time to 2003!
Unfortunately, it's almost impossible to find a Mark IIN and the Mark III is a question mark right now, so once the shutter is replaced I'll probably get a few more miles out of the Mark II. |

->> How do you find the number of total shutter actuations on a Canon EOS1D Mark IV?

->> I would like to look at this link to see the shutter problem, however when I click on it a page comes up stating that I am not allowed to access it. Any suggestions, as I am a fairly new member. Thanks.

->> Oh, sorry Michael, my fault. The reason you can see that link anymore, it because the member who posted it is no longer a member. It's a broken link.

->> Stew, thanks for letting me know. I did sign it, however that didn't help, so then I posted a comment. I did not realize this was from 2007. I have been reading through many posts when I have spare time. There is a lot of helpful information here. Thanks again, Michael
