Sports Shooter Academy In Canada?

->> Not sure if this has been brought up before, sorry if it has. I was just wondering what the chances are of ss.com doing a "Sports Shooter Academy" somewhere in Canada? (perhaps on the east coast) I know that most of the people running the academies are from California, so it would be a little costly to come up here. I think it would be a cool opportunity for your east coast members to rub shoulders with some of the best sports photographers in the business.
So, what are the chances of running a "Sports Shooter Academy" in Toronto, Ottawa or Montreal? :) |

->> Jordan,
I can say for myself and Bert, never. The man hours that go into SAA is huge. We have a relationship with the schools we use during SSA. Three D1 schools are 15 miles from each other. It just can't be done. Four of the regulars in the Academy live in LA. (money saver and some of the best shooters you can find) Weather is another big part, Toronto in Feb.. The sports we can shoot, football, baseball water polo horse racing and AVP. In a perfect world maybe. Don't hold your breath. |

->> Oh man, too bad as I was ready to enlist if it will be held here in Ontario.
It could have been "the first" ever SS Academy outside U.S., but time, & resource flexibility as Matt mentioned are not favorable. |

->> LOL @ Duncan
Ya why not drive down. Its only about 4500KM (2800 miles) :) If they came up in the summer, we have all the same sports to shoot as they do in California. :) |

->> Jordan I dont think you're seeing the point still. The 4 main organizers of the event have personal relationships with the sports that we shoot at SSA, which allow us the access that we are given.
They live down there, they have families down there this makes things easier to organize an event than driving 2800 miles a few times to make sure things are going to work out. |

->> Andrew, good point and who really wants to go to Canada...
Jordan, I didn't know there was Beach Volleyball or Water Polo in Canada. Really.
Anyways no matter where the next SSA is held its well worth the drive or flight. Thanks to everyone who puts on SSA, the coolest workshop. |

| ->> Perhaps it's just a matter for the Canadian SSA participants to hone their skills for a few years then organize their own workshop? There's nothing saying it can't be done independently of SS (of course, then it won't be called SSA). Some of the pro sports teams up here are actually quite accommodating to special requests from photographers, but the challenge may be finding the density and variety of desired sports in one area. It could also be tied in with the ECNPA or WCNPA workshops.... just my thoughts. |

Where is Canada, I don't see it in the map? What kind of people leaves there? (sarcasm ends)
We have all kinds of sports up here in Canada, not just Hockey ;-)
Ron, you have a very good point. We can organize our own SSA type of event up here tied with WCNPA or ECNPA. |

->> Ouch. No need for Nation bashing. Why do americans always resort to that? Insecurity I guess. (only kidding of course)
Again, I now understand why the event is only held in California. I totally understand. No need for everyone to get their panties in a bunch. :) |

->> People have NO idea what goes into this very COOL educational program and I guess why it is so special.
Having the opportunity to photograph real NCAA Division I sports is just one thing ... but the most important: men's and women's basketball, baseball, men's and women's volleyball, track & field, swimming & diving, men's & women's water polo, softball, men's & women's soccer and crew...
(Not to mention AVP beach volleyball, boxing, rugby and horse racing.)
There may be others out there ... and there may be people that want to imitate it...but there is only one COOLEST sports photography event of the year. The Sports Shooter Academy.
Stay tuned for more details on future Sports Shooter Academy workshops! |

->> The Academy is well worth a trip to California. Part of what makes this workshop so special (and so very cool) is the lengths to which Bert and Matt go through to hand pick the participants from piles of applications.
Each Academy class brims with talent and heart.... And apparently the Eddie Adams crew felt the same way about some Academy participants.
Congrats to 5 Academy alumni who have just been named to the '07 Barnstorm list.
SSA I: Dustin Snipes
SSA III: Kirk Irwin
SSA III: Grant Morris
SSA III: Kristin Nichols
SSA IV: Corey Perrine
Great job guys, -C. |
