->> Rene,
You must have been shooting the Michigan Track and Field State Finals in Grand Rapids. I also shoot out there, Div 2 in Zeeland. I used the voice recorder for the first time and that worked well. I was well over 3000 pictures for the day. Sorting all those pictures was fun. I am sure your idea would have work better.

->> Probably a dumb question... Did you use these with a mk II or a mk IIN?
Thanks,
Walt |

->> We do the same thing...only we have 3 divisions (Novice, Minor, Cadet) and each division has both boys and girls, so we have (6) times the number of folders that you have. We shot approximately 12,500 images on Saturday and had them edited and online by Tuesday morning (taking Sunday off).
When we do AAU Track and Field laster in the summer we'll have (9) divisions:
Primary
Sub-Bantam
Bantam
Sub-Midget
Midget
Sub-Youth
Youth
Intermediate
Young
All divisions have both boys and girls
It's all about preparation |

| ->> I find it easier to just sort the images by capture time in Photo Mechanic. But then I'm not right in the head ... |

->> I was at Zeeland with Matt. I ended up using two bodies, the Mk2n, and my 20D. Image sorting was so much easier on the Mk2n as I was able to use the sound to record, then when working, just look for the wav file. Made sorting a ton easier. Ended up with over 4000 images in one day. I think for a while my shutter was smoking.
Rene, the weather was not bad, but it did make for a late trip back to Detroit. Ended up home at 11:30pm. |

->> I was covering the meet in Ohio and could of sure used such folders. It was a bit of a nightmare sorting because I had two bodies and figured that the timestamps alone would make things easy enough. Not hardly!
Second day I made darn sure to make a new folder for each and every event and write down what event which folder went to.
With events that big organization is so very important, unless you enjoy sitting for hours trying to sort out a few thousand photos via timestamps and the program
program by the way became rather useless after rain delays so nothing was on time.
lessons definatly learned |

->> Rene, 4K is nothing. I shoot a state cheer championship and put about 15K on in one day
80 some teams, 20-30 girls per team, basically nonstop for about 12 hours straight, what a nightmare! |

->> Rene,
Thanks again for the custom track folders.
I shot the MHSAA Div 1 Finals this past weekend, and I used the folder setup that you provided.
It made image sorting at the end of the day a snap, as long as I remembered to change the folder before shooting a new event.
Thanks again - this is why I Love SS!!! |

->> 4K, that's nothing. Try sorting 30-40K in three days and getting them all edited and online within 24 hours. As I write this, I notice Jeff Mills post. I shoot gymnastics, very similar to the cheer competitions in length and amount you shoot.
Depending on the type of event, I either put each athlete in a separate folder, or shoot everything and everyone on all the apparatus and sort later. It's a little more work on the back end, but I'm able to get more photos of more gymnasts.

I have to echo what Andy said. I shoot with him again this year and he talked me into using the folders...WOW what a difference in time.
Thanks for your hard work,

->> Jeff & Stew,
15k images in one day? 30-40k images in one weekend? All on one camera? How often do you replace your shutters...and are these events lucrative enough to buy new cameras? LOL |

->> i had to take pictures of every single house in our council city area for the local governement, luckily it's rural so that was only about 1500 homes, but, i had multiple shots per house etc, so each new house i used a new folder on the same 4 gig card, i only had to shoot 4 mega pixel images as the end use was legal documents, but the folder per house thing worked well, made the architechs job a lot easier i was told. also the folder number was related to a map with the house marked and a gps data point. All this was possible because i decided to save each house in eacch folder, it also meant any missing houses that i didnt manage to get i could go back and get by saying ohh you need to go get 207, as you missed it....
So it has it's use over other ideas as well. |

Just trying to understand the workflow. |

| ->> Pretty much. That way, if you have two photos in a row of runners coming down the same stretch of track, you know for sure that they weren't taken during the same race. While timestamps will usually help you figure that out, it's a lot easier (for me, anyway) to just compare my heat sheet to the folders on my camera or computer and figure out who everyone is and what race they're in. |

->> The way I did it was to pre-load the folders on to the cards before going to shoot. This way, the folders are already in and you can just select the folder corresponding to the event and fire away.
I hope this helps.
