As someone who also works on the design desk, I can assure you that providing accurate (and plenty) of information is essential to a good cutline, even if all the info is not used, it's still important to be thorough. And let me also emphasize something else: SPELLING. Get the names correct. Remember, half right is all wrong. Add the letters "cq" after each name. It tells the copy editor you have checked and doubled checked the spelling of a name. There is no excuse for misspelled names.
