Cost for new shutter mechanism?
Gary Jones, Photographer

->> How much will I have to pay Nikon to repair/replace a shutter mechanism in a D2x? I'm comparing prices of used D2x bodies and just want to factor in what I may have to pay for a shutter repair. BTW the D2Hs body that will become my backup has over 290K actuations since July, 2005, all by me. Wonder if that comes close to any record.

->> Gary,
The price may vary depending on the actual cost of living in each particular area and the markup on parts added by the service center you use.
Here in Atlanta I took one of my D2H bodies to the Nikon authorized service center recommended by Nikon which also happens to be the same service center the newspaper I work for uses and it cost me $573.44 for a new shutter, the good thing was it only took them 6 days to get the parts and make the repairs.

->> Gary,

I was pretty fortunate. I sent my D2H to Nikon in El Segundo, CA and was blown over when my camera was returned to me with a new shutter, plus other adjustments, free of charge. The shutter was very close to 150K actuations and two years old. It was sent in a year previously for the lightmeter/focus warranty repair. The turn-around was about 10 days in both cases.

Nikon received a very complimentary e-mail from me and my continued loyalty to their products.

Good luck!

John

->> In my case, the D2h was around $450. I guess it depends on whether its the mechanism or the blades. Dont really know the difference, but its the difference between $450 and $525......
