->> Alan...
I have found Ipswitch WS_FTP Pro to be very robust and reliable:
http://www.ipswitch.com/
It's a bit more expensive than some but I can safely say that it has been well worth the investment. An excellent all-round FTP solution.
If you're already a PhotoMechanic user then don't forget that you can FTP from there as well. Very easy to configure and use. Excellent for sending 'live' images in the field.
Also, if you have a PhotoShelter account, you can FTP direct from your online archive within PhotoShelter. This is very easy to set up and has the added bonus of not using your own bandwidth when sending.
Hope that helps.

->> Transmit is $30 and works great: www.panic.com It's what I use.
Yummy FTP is also a good program, not free, but cheap. It's my second choice.
Cyberduck, CuteFTP, and PhotoMechanic has an FTP transmit tool built in.
Do a Google search for FTP programs and download a few trials until you find one you like. |

But Transmit for Mac is far better and easier to use, well worth the $30. |

->> Gavin,
I'll second your vote for Ipswitch WS_FTP...very simple to use, drag-and-drop system. Works a treat for me!
Alan, if you don't mind me adding an extra element to your query, I'm wondering if anyone knows of an FTP program for PC that allows you to drop files onto multiple picture desks all at once...ideally in a single click/drag? WS_FTP allows you to drop multiple files onto one server at a time, but I'm looking for something that will allow me to drop a SET of files onto a SET of servers, all at once!
Thanks for any info!
Simon. |

| ->> Safari also supports FTP on the Mac. I've just started using Firefox on a regular basis, so I've not installed the FTP plug in, yet. Will soon, however, to see how well it works. Typically, however, I've been using Fetch to transfer files; and the FTP component in Photomechanic to send images. Which I'm in love with. |

If you use Photoshelter you can send chosen images to any number of picture desks at the same time. Its needs to an extra step but you could download images straight into a Photoshelter folder to make it easier.

->> Alan, you can use the address bar in either Internet Explorer or Firefox. All you have to do is type ftp.websiteaddress.com and you will get a login page. Login and then drag/drop the files to the ftp page. I find it easiest to have the folder where my images are covering half my desktop and the ftp folder covering the other half.
Here's some additional help: http://ftphelp.secureserver.net/IE/ie.htm
Let me know if you have any questions.

->> Photo Mechanic works great... but if you need a stand-alone FTP and/or SFTP program for OS X you should check out CyberDuck.
http://cyberduck.ch/
It's free and is really easy to use. |
