->> just came across on Rob Galbraith's website about the new photo mechanic beta release:
http://tinyurl.com/243ft3
on paper it looks like photo mechanic on steroids (!) drag-and-drop sorting, simpleviewer gallery generation, tabbed contact sheets on mac, just to name a few. |

->> Sorry Ian, I'm spreading the word like a wild fire. Nobody at my school understands how I can get photos online within 30-60 minutes after the game ends. I tell them the secret but nobody wants to spend the money. Their loss.
Michael,
Shoot camera bits an email. Their customer service is great. I can't speak for them, but I doubt they would have a problem giving you a call during your hours of availability.
I agree though. It would be nice if their website was a little more modern. I would have purchased it earlier than I did if I could have just paid online. |

And mails are not all that easy to catch as someone might think. Huge amount of traffic flowing through internet, works for us and our security in this case :) |

| ->> Did I miss something in the earlier versions, or is tabbed contact sheets new? Man, is that cool! So much easier than moving back and forth from window to window. I like the new look, too. I think drag and drop was there in the previous rev, at least on the Mac. |

Anyone else bothered by having to scroll to see all the info? |

->> Jason, several people (including myself) have expressed a dislike of the new IPTC Stationary Pad window. Trust me, it is better now than in the original private beta.
Kirk is working on an update that will allow user customization of the dialogs to hide fields you don't want to see and sorting of the ones you do use but there is no estimated completion date for the feature. |

->> I really, really wish the Preview mode had thumbnails going vertically instead of horizontally so I can see vertical images bigger. I read on the camera bits forums a couple of weeks ago that they were going to add a new thumbnail display for the left and right side of the screen but after playing with 4.5 I don't see it.
I love the custom Arrangement sort for the contact sheets! I was never a fan of using CS2 Bridge.

Anyone else seen this?

->> I wish I could toggle from the preview mode to edit mode and then back to preview mode without making a stop at the contact sheet on the way, but I've had this request in with CB for a while...
As it is now, when you're in preview mode and you click out to edit, when you save in PS, you return to PM in the contact sheet - sort of interrupts workflow (unless I'm doing something wrong) |

->> Checked the update and for now went with the 4.433 update from 9/06 (because it was free). I had to send the following to Camera Bits because now nothing works. Anyone have the following problem?
"Aloha Camera Bits,
I updated to 4.433 and I get the "Scripting engine failed to initialize" and it times out. My Photo Mechanic program is now useless and I have some landslide disaster images I need to edit and send off.
Please advise ASAP.
Mahalo,
Barry Markowitz"
Unfortunately it Easter Weekend, have to edit and send out images from a major landslide completely shutting down the North Shore...looks like I am back to old school basics slo mo. |

->> What I like is the increased speed in the generation of the preview files. Haven't installed it yet on my laptops, but on the desktop there is a notable improvement on performance.
Yeah, Jason, I wasn't thrilled about the new IPTC setup either, but happy to see they are working on a fix.
However, what has me excited is something really SWEET - the ability now to open sub-folders from a parent folder into a single contact sheet. This feature and along with another I can go through my archives and create a list of what files are on each disk to put into a database application I've created to locate specific files archived to DVD but not a network drive a lot faster than in the past. |

->> Any one have a link to "known problems"?
I just downloaded and when I try to create a new folder either from the file list or from the ingest window, the software hiccups and closes leaving me with that famous "do you want to report this error to microsoft" window.
I'm running XP home.... |

Sounds like they hope to have a fix real soon.
PhotoMechanic, I've been using for less than a year. How did I live without it?
Can't wait to really test drive this sleek vehicle. |

| ->> Its Easter Sunday, my Photo Mechanic has a small scripting issue...so Kirk Baker, Senior Software Engineer for Camera Bits, surfs in on a white horse to save the day...all in about 4 minutes. Is Camera Bits, Photo Mechanic, and SS.com cool or what? Its really refreshing to have nothing but positive things to say about a product, and their company's staff/service. Canon (Amy), Delkin (Scotty), Think Tank (Uncle Dougie), Varizoom, Portabrace, and Aqua Tech have equally provided superior service to our SS.com community, be they sponsors or not. Mahalos. |

->> I have been using the beta and it seems to be running sorta slow. Has anyone else had this happening? Does the final release solve this?
Running
Mac 10.4
12" powerbook
1 ghz
768 ram
yes I know it is an old machine. I am guessing that this may be part of the problem. The only thing is that the new PM runs so slow it is an issue.
Don't get me wrong, I love PM and I would be lost without it. It is an awesome program, I am just hoping some one out there has some other info.
Thanks

->> Brian, there was an issue in the betas causing extreme slowness that we tracked down to the navigator being collapsed. If you expand the Navigator (on the left side of the contact sheet window) the problem goes away.
This issue was resolved in the final release of 4.5 and it is as speedy as ever now. |

I deadline in 12 hours. I should have tried to install this thing during camera bits working hours.
Be careful, you might lose the entire application, like I did. |

->> For those of you with "Scripting Engine failed to Initialize" error, here is the easiest fix for Windows machines:
On you C drive (or wherever your programs are), go the PROGRAMS directory. Under that directory will be a Camera Bits Subdirectory. DELETE the entire CAMERA BITS Subdirectory. Then reinstall your 4.4xx release and it should be fine. All of you settings, etc. are stored in the registry so you will not lose your settings like FTP, etc.
I am posting this as a result of having the same error and talking with Tech Support last Friday.
I did not have an issue with the demo and uninstalling it on my Mac. |

->> Is anyone else having problems with PM bogging down their laptops to Apple IIe speeds? If I'm working in the stationary pad and need to jump on MLB.com to check a stat or something, it takes about 2-3 minutes to get a browser window to open up. Same with selecting any other program. The odd part is that on menu meters the processor readings aren't maxed out when this happens.
The other odd thing is that it's picky and choosy about how it organizes photos by file name I've noticed. |

I was having similar problems on windows and worse. Kirk is testing a new version of the navigator. I'm not sure if the navigator caused issues with the mac people but you may want to jump over to the camerabits forum and check.
The new navigator code has cleared all of the crashes and slow downs on my machine. Not sure when Kirk is going to release it tothe public. |

Why? Everything else scrolls vertically. This will be really annoying. I hope there will be an option for the traditional vertical scrolling. |
