Photoshop CS3 beta; anyone testing it? runs SLOW!
Phil Hawkins, Photographer

->> Is this happening with anyone else? I am running Bridge and it is WAAAAY slow, sometimes 15 seconds to bring up an image from the film strip view. Tagged a couple with a green tag and it's taking forever. Nothing like CS2 that runs great. Also slow responding to a simple click.

Also, right after I installed CS3, I found "mDNSResponder.exe" on my hard drive. I am told that's the connection to ITunes, but I have never installed ITunes... WHY is it there?

->> I am running the CS3 beta on an Intel Mac and an iBook G4. It runs great on the Intel, and much faster than C2, on the iBook it's a little slower but still usable.

PC clone

Setup scratch disk for :G drive different from Program drive C:

Running 2 gigs of RAM 15% space left on hard drives (dual RAIDed 280 gig drives.)

1 gig of display card RAM.

Never had performance problems with CS2. Now, Bridge CS3 is slow as a glacier.

Thanks

Phil

->> I've been running CS3 since they offered it up as a beta. And I've had the similar issues with Bridge. I initially had it opening up when PS launched but it was so darn slow to load. Image loading was also slow. I've gone back to using Nikon Browser. But overall, CS3 seems faster in many areas than CS2 on my PC. There are a few other snags but all considered, a nice upgrade. I'm gonna assume they will have a few of these bugs worked out when it's offered.

->> I've had no Problems with CS3. I don't use Bridge. I'm testing it on a Mac. I have a few squirley issues but nothing major. I use Photo Mechanic rather than Bridge. It's faster than Bridge so I don't bother with Adobe's fancy browser.

->> I'm running cs3 beta on both my pc laptop, and my g5 desktop. Bridge is just plain slow for me on both. I like Camera Raw and Photoshop cs3 a lot. Bridge is so slow that I bought PhotoMechanic. Too bad because I liked it a lot too. Just too darn slow. PM is little different than what I'm used to but it works great especially for deadline!

->> Phil & Dan,

Have you downloaded the "Beta 2" version of Bridge CS3? You might find that improves things; I did.

Bridge CS2 was always a dog IMO. Bridge CS3 is a purebred, but still a dog. Although it is getting better.

->> Though I don't use beta software often, hearing reviews I downloaded it in January. Use it exclusively on my G5 dual, it's faster than CS2. Toggle between it and CS2 on my MacBook Pro because a couple of the plugins I use don't work in CS3 on the Intel side of the Universal Binary. I find it very fast and better (love using ACR for jpegs!), but I don't use Bridge at all so I can't comment on its speed.

->> Photoshop is fine, but Bridge is slothing along and I get script and error messages constantly. Now, only some photos open from bridge, I am forced to open in Photoshop w/o bridge. I downloaded the Beta 2 and no difference. I run on a 17" Powerbook 1.67 2GB Ram

->> Guess I'm the odd ball out then. Running the beta Bridge on a MacBook Pro and its beautiful. I don't have PM and the my Nikon Viewer is the sloth on this machine. The only issues I've had with the CS3 beta is it makes my CS2 suite programs quit out of no where.

The PS loads extremely fast as well as Bridge. Would hope the final release would clear out any other bugs.
