->> It looks as though you shutter has gone out and will need to be replaced. Not the best news, but it happens.
Good luck. |

Looks to be a blown shutter. I have yet to have it happen on my Mark II so I do not know how much it costs for canon to repair. I had it happen a while ago shooting with my nikon, but I think it was under warranty so it was a no charge.

->> Looks like a sensor problem. See the bright white horizontal line near the top too?
Are all of the images produced by the camera like this now? |

| ->> Thick black line and a bright strip across the image? Yep, that's a broken shutter! Same thing happened to my 1Ds. Repair cost was about £150 ($300) but covered by insurance as it happened after the camera took a knock. |

| ->> I had heard that Canon was replacing MKII shutters free of charge because so many of them were blowing. True? |

| ->> Ditto on the shutter diagnosis. Mine was a white streak diagonally through the frame. It cost about $250 to repair. CPS got it back to me very quickly, though. By the way, I only had 77,000 actuations on the camera when it blew. |

| ->> I don't think I had but 30,000 on my Mark II before the shutter blew. $200-250 should cover it. Mine was out of warranty for several months...but all it took was a little begging and they did it for free. |

->> Just want to thank all who posted on this thread, especially Christopher (most similiar case to mine) and add my experience.
The shutter on my Mark II broke on 5/14/07. I didn't notice it on the first picture, so I actually saw a image with a black diagonal streak across it and then an image with a white horizontal streak across the middle. The camera shut off after two images.
The camera had roughly 37,900 shutter accusations as best I could determine.
This was my first experience with Canon Factory Services. Previously, I had only dealt with Nikon. I sent the camera in next day air, explained how and where it happened, included a picture (link below), and also mentioned this message thread where others with 30,000 or so accusations had the shutter replaced for free.
I am not yet a CPS member, and not sure how much (if at all) mentioning the experiences on this message thread helped, but the shutter was replaced for free and camera was returned to me in 13 business days.

So thanks all for the information above, and thanks to Canon Factory Services. |

->> Pedro,
As others have pointed out it sounds like a shutter. Margaret is right on with the price. However I will give you a word of warning if you send it to Canon NJ. DO NOT let them try to tell you that you need to replace the mirror box. Mine went in a couple of months ago and I got an estimate of almost $1000.00 because they wanted to replace the shutter, sensor screen and mirror box. I spoke with the tech and was told that it was SOP to replace the mirror box when the shutter is replaced. This is true for film camera but ONLY for film cameras. The 1 series film cameras have a mirror box that has a rated life of over 1,000,000 frames so they do not need to be replaced at the same time as the shutter. I ended up having to go to Canon marketing in NJ before I got mine replaced at $250.00. The marketing guys were not happy to say the least. Marketing actually made the repair center replace the shutter, mirror box and sensor screen for the price of a shutter.
The up side is they cleaned everything, replaced some peeling rubber and it looked like brand new when it got back to me.
