->> I'm haveing some trouble with my macbook. It have a 80 gig drive with 55 gig free, but when I run photoshop cs3 it tells me I need to delete some files from my scratch disk? How do I do this? I only have the one drive & only one parition. when I run photo mechanic it takes about 3 min. to delete a picture. i've seen a box come up that says I need to delete files from my start up disk. That it is all most full. How is this so with 55 gigs free!
Thanks Marc |

| ->> Marc, Go to the Photoshop menu > Performance. There should be a dialog box mentioning Scratch Disk. Make sure the 55 GB is checked. If you have the primary startup drive set as the scratch disk and there is free space than you shouldn't have an issue. Also what task are you performing in photoshop? If its that scratch disk intensive I recommend that you pick up an external Firewire Drive and use that as the scratch disk. Also you ahve to still account that PSCS3 is still a beta. |

->> When I signed up for MaxPreps there was a plug in that they used in photoshop that cropped images to their specs. I got this same warning and it went away when I deleted the plug in. Have you done any photoshop work lately with cropping?

->> I meant to say an "Action". They had a preset action in the action tab that I imported and installed. Did you create your own action in photoshop and include a "crop" effect. If so, try and delete that action. sorry, this is all I can help with as it is all I can remember at this point....

Have you emptied your trash? Trash counts towards hard ddisk space. The only other suggestion I have is go to
http://discussions.apple.com/index.jspa
and post to one of the forums there. I've had good luck - seems to be lots of mac savvy people there.

If Photo Mechanic is slow, you could check the preference settings under the Caching tab to see what the disk cache size is set to. If you're having specific problems with Photo Mechanic, Camera Bits has a support forum available where you can get direct support very quickly from their developers.

Alternatively this could point to a more serious problem with the hard drive. You could try running a check with Disk Utility (located in the Utilities folder in the Application folder). If it detects problems you'll have to start up from the installation disk that came with the computer and run Disk Utility from that since it's not possible to repair the disk from which Disk Utility is running.

An alternative to Disk Utility would be DiskWarrior by Alsoft. It's an excellent disk repair utility. http://alsoft.com/
Do you ever leave your computer on overnight? There are some automatic maintenance routines that are by default set to run at night (around 3 am) that can help keep the system in better shape. Conversely, if you rarely turn off the computer, you might consider restarting it from time to time. |

->> Chris, yes the trash is empty.
i've talked to kirk about the problem & he has helped me look for some programs to delete hidden files.
thanks.
Ron, i've bought disk warrior & it didn't find any problems. I leave my macbook on all the time, only restart it about once a month or after installing a program. I'm shocked that apple can't get rid of the ghost files they make on there own hardrives. you can see the files on a windows machine, & there all over the place. I understand that there only 1 or 2kb in size, but when you have a 250 gig drive with 50,000 pictures on it, them apple want to put another 50,000 ghost files on that drive, you have a lot of wasted space. Sorry, just venting.
thanks for the help. |
