What is the one piece of gear you can't live without?

I'm sure everybody has something that they absolutely cherish, but for some reason it doesn't get much love from others.
For me, it's my Nikkor 85mm f/1.8 lens. The basketball & ice hockey images on my page were shot with it. I love it because I'm able shoot at ISO 800 instead of 1600 in the basketball gym or at the ice rink. Best $400 I've ever spent. Although they each have their own uses, I'd take it over my 80-200mm f2.8 any day if I had to make a choice.
Be creative :) we all know you can't live without your 300 or nice digital bodies. |

->> My bread-and-butter kit... D200 w/ 17-55 and D2H w/ 70-200 ... one slung on each shoulder. There isn't a thing in the world you can't shoot with this combo... Sure, some things are tougher than others without longer or wider glass, and a flash-and-umbrella kit adds a LOT sometimes, but everything beyond these two bodies and lenses is really icing on the cake...

It just fits with my approach to shooting - getting close to people and just interacting. |

->> I'll third the GPS system... I recieved a Garmin StreetPilot for Christmas and man, it just makes getting around a whole lot easier (and gives me a much better sense of how long it takes to get places, too).
As far as strictly camera gear...? I'd have to say my 50mm 1.8. It doesn't get used quite as much as my zooms but it certainly earns its keep, and for being an $80 plastic lens, I'm constantly amazed at its quality and versatility. |
