pricing for used Mark II ?

->> I am negotiating buying a used Canon Mark II. It has gotten a lot of use, but it's still in decent condition. This is the camera that I used every day for two years until I was laid off on Monday. Now my former employer has no photographers but a few sets of camera gear and I need a camera. It seems to be a little difficult to find used Mark IIs for sale to compare this to. I am trying to help them come up with a price so I can get this thing out of the broom closet.
I found a couple of postings on Ebay, but not enough to feel secure.
Any advice is greatly appreciated. |

| ->> Alicia,If you don't see any for sale here in the Classifieds check out the Buy and Sell Forum at Fred Miranda.com.There have been quite a few for sale there lately.You may have to register to view the Buy and Sell forum.It would be worth registering,lots of gear changes hands here daily.Seems like most have been going for $2000.00 -$2500.00 depending on shutter count and condition. |

->> Alicia:
Sorry to hear about the layoff. I hope you'll land on your feet quickly if you haven't already. I agree with Scott and take a look at Fred Miranda. Several people that I know have purchased some very nice gear on that site. Lots of it in better condition than you mention at the same price. Also check with our sponsors first as well as B&H Photo. Many get used gear in from time to time in nice condition at a decent price. I know I probably don't have to say this, but keep in mind that your camera is a tool and if you have to pay a little more for one in better condition it will be worth the peace of mind in dependability.
Good luck! |

| ->> Okay, here's a question. I have never tried to figure out the shutter count before. How do I determine that? I reformat every time I put a new disc in the camera, so there is no frame count that way. |

->> Alicia,
I purchased ($10.00) a little program called canCount from a German photographer (http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/content_page.asp?cid=7-7893-8309), but it appears his site is in a holding pattern. This program is a desktop drag and drop app that recreates the LCD and shows the AF points.

->> In Photo Mechanic , you can get the accuations of the Mark II series camera by going to "Edit" - "Set Info Text" - Varaibles. Add "accuations" Then save it.
When you preview the image, it be the last in the list under info. This works in Raw files, I assume jpegs as well |

| ->> FWIW, I bought a 1D Mark II, barely used (less than 8,000 actuations) and about a year old, for $2,600. This was less than one year ago. Hope that adds a useful data point for you. |

->> Hi Alicia
I just bought my Mark II ID in early November, about a year and a half old barely used and in mint condition with around 7300 shutter actuations, 2 batteries and a year and a half left on the warranty for $2200. I saw some with more actuations go for less than $2000 but the condition wasn't great. |

->> Colin,
Where'd you get that amazing deal? I'm in the market for a lightly used 1D Mark II myself and haven't seen anything in good condition going for less than $2,500. Only one I saw for less was $2,200 on ebay with marks I didn't like and about 30,000 actuations. |

->> Hey Jim,
I searched around for about 2 weeks. Eventually I had my best luck on New York City's craigslist. Good luck, I know there are equally good deals out there.
