->> How do you find the actuation info for the 5D in Photomechanic? I've looked and looked and can't find it and everyone says it's there.

->> Phil,

Not sure if it's the same for the 5d but on my MKII ... I go to the last image on the contact sheet:

1. Highlight it (not open it)
2. Hit Edit on the toolbar
3. Select Set Info Text
4. Hit the Variables button
5. Scroll to Camera and double-click actuations,act
6. Close the Variables window
7. Press the OK button on the Set Info Text
8. Right-click the image and highlight Image Info

Should be there somewhere now. This is done on my WinXP laptop ... so it might be different on OSX.

You might want to reverse the process to take it out after.

Hope this helps.

Richard

->> Hey, thanks!

I got a 3-digit figure; does this mean 247,000 if all it says is 247? (Which it does) I have a hard time believing I have taken 247,000 shots with it. I've only owned it since November of last year.

->> I looked at some of my other images and they go from 247 (last in the contact sheet) to 233, 225, etc. The figure I'm getting is not making sense.

->> The 30D has a simular problem mine shows 7 million actuations I have only had it since August 2006 it should be around 9000 but my MkIIn shows about 21000 which is about what I figure I have shot on it.

->> The actuation values stored in an image are not standardized. Every camera model seems to do it a bit differently since the maker seems to regard that as proprietary info.

A year or two ago I had a look at the source code used by Exiftags that is used by many apps to show us the actuations, and the algorithms are pretty convoluted to figure it out. Since the camera makers aren't interested in revealing how those numbers are encoded, it takes some guesswork to figure them out.

If you use a Mac you might want to look into EXIF Viewer for that info.
