What do you use to browse/choose photos on iMac...

->> Just wondering what everyone uses to browse photos on their Apple computers? I have a PC and an iMac, and Nikon View works great on the PC, but I'm trying to not even use it. However, NV runs really slow on my iMac. It's a fairly new 250 GB / 2GB RAM / INTEL CORE DUO machine so it should do just fine, but everything is so sluggish. Draggin and dropping into photoshop, scrolling through images after opening another one... stuff like that.
So, what DOES work well with iMac? |

->> Photoshop Lightroom or photomechanic.
You could use Aperture also, but PS Lightroom is a much better piece of software in my opinion. Also, PS Lightroom is free.
Notice I call it "Photoshop Lightroom". Adobe has added the Photoshop because I think and have heard from reliable people, although Adobe will never admit it, that Lightroom will eventually be packaged in with the next version of Photoshop and not a stand-alone package. Of course, this is just educated speculation. |

->> Thanks guys. I've used Photo Mechanic a few times, but never on my computer. Does it allow you to transfer photos to hard drive rather than just open a contact sheet.
A big concern is, many times I shoot with more than one body and need to have all my photos fall in chronological order once they're flowed in to one folder. Nikon View allows me to load them in using file date and time as the file name rather than DSC_0001, DSC_0002, DSC_0003, etc.
Does PhotoMechanic allow for this?

| ->> Yep. Or you can set it to list the photos by time shot (but make sure you cameras date and time are sync'd). |

| ->> Yeah... I run in to that occasionally where I forget to sync them up, or if I'm teaming with another shooter, forgetting to sync with him. |

->> Lightroom, I absolutely love using it, especially for RAW files. I also like it how you can make the Contact Sheets right in the program. Also Lightroom is extremely integrated with Photoshop. Somebody from Adobe came to my college (Antonelli Institute) to talk about Lightroom, it is absolutely stunning what can be done with it.

| ->> I too use Lightroom for all my image culling, and 80-85% of my editing needs. Plus, it's great for creating very quickly images for export to Web, or CD, or to create slideshow to show my PR managers what they will be getting at the end of a day's shoot. |

| ->> I downloaded the trial version of Aperture, and while it does have some useful features, I still find it too slow...and I am running on a 2 GHz Dual G5; not a slow machine. Lightroom is notably zippier. |
