Tamron warranty any good for others?

->> Hi all,

I just got word that Tamron will not honor their six year warranty on my 28-75 f/2.8 lens (just over a year old)

It gradually stopped working. At first it was a strange buzz noise when autofocusing, then it began locking up around 50mm when going through the zoom range. Eventually it wouldn't work at all. They are claiming impact damage. I am the only user of the lens and it has never suffered any drops or direct impact other than normal wear and tear.

At first Tamron said it would cost me $300 to repair the $400 lens. After a letter to them requesting they reconsider and asking specifically what was wrong, they still claimed impact damage but reduced the estimate to $150. They never specified exactly what is wrong with the lens.

I guess this is the price for not buying Canon equipment. I am curious if this is standard operating procedure for Tamron or if others have had better experiences with them? Overall i've been happy with the lens but needless to say I am unhappy with their customer service and that will impact my future purchases.

Same thing happened to me. My 300 f/2.8 had the outter retainer ring fall off and they claimed impact damage to the tune of $800. After I threatened to sue them for breach of their warranty, they told me to book a flight and we'd see them in court. Then an Asian repair tech manager yelled and screamed at me to the point he could hardly breathe.
The long and short of it was that I ended up paying $300 and my insurance paid $500. The lens came back 4 mos later looking brand new. It went on ebay the next day.

I replaced it with a Nikkor and have had no problems. The thing is SOLID. I guess you get what you pay for.
