->> David,
Check out section 4-2 of your Canon software manual (Windows). This will show you how to edit the owner's name, which will appear in the EXIF data. If you don't have the manual, you can download it from the Canon web site.

| ->> You have to do it in the program that came with your camera. You know, it's probably that software you never installed or use very often..... There is an option in the pull down menu for setting that and other things.... |

->> You set this up by plugging your camera into your computer with the firewire cord, turning the camera on, and opening the Eos Viewer Utility, which is in Applications>Canon Utilities>EosViewer Utilities if you installed all the applications on the disk that came with your cameras. Click on the camera icon at the right of the upper tool bar. You can put your name, or whatever, in the Owner field. Spaces are allowed, but I don't know how many characters it can hold.
When you're using iptc in photo mechanic, whatever you put in that field will show up when you use the tag {id} in one of the fields. So under copyright for instance you can put {id} {iptcyear4} and it will put in David Seelig 2006 (or whatever you put in as the name and the year that your camera is set to.

->> Sorry to temporarily hijack the thread, but if (like me) you use a powerful laptop at home instead of a desktop, and don't have that large firewire slot built into the laptop, how do you connect the 1D MkII to the computer to edit such options?
According to the manual, you can ONLY connect using firewire, and not USB...although I have the smaller firewire slot in the laptop, I don't have the larger one to accomodate the cable that came with the camera...is it simply a case of buying a small>small cable, or are there any alternative options?
Many thanks! |

->> To answer Simon, yes if you have a smaller fire wire plug u can buy a cable and get to the setting on your Mark II, I have an old 1D and I have only a small fire wire plug and I am able to change those setting. Also from what I have noticed that my name only pops up when I shoot RAW in my 1D, is that different in the Mark II?
Thanks,
