Denis Brodeur collection up for auction
Melissa Wade, Photographer

->> An article from The Gazette including info on his old setup - http://www.canada.com/montrealgazette/news/sports/story.html?id=392450cd-51...

I thought this was interesting - "...Now, at 75, Brodeur has put almost his entire massive collection on the block with Classic, the world's premier hockey auction house. It's time, he says, since others are profiting handsomely by selling his photos on an unpoliced Internet, where many believe that running a website overrules copyright.

"I could find 100 of my pictures today on websites, photos that have been stolen," Brodeur said. "But I still have most of my negatives. Before email, I'd send 100 (originals) out for a project, and I'd get back maybe 95. People were pretty good about that."..."

Also interesting - Gilles Gratton who had an "interesting" hockey career handles the photography auctions for Classic.

and a link to the auction itself -

I'm rather surprised by how low the current top bid is although it does run until 10/24. At this point you could make a mint just selling individual negatives to fans. Although on the other side the Ruelle collection went for under $1/image.

The price tag on an iconic hockey picture, which is also an iconic Canadian picture, the auction also included the camera it was shot with?

$49,279.00

It seems low for a picture that pretty much every Canadian photographer wishes they had shot.

Why? Maybe bacause another photographer had an identical frame.
I blogged about it,

->> Great read Steve ... thanks for sharing.

I've had the chance to shoot with Denis 4-5 times while Martin was in town playing. A great man with lots of great stories.
