Lexar CF card problems

->> Fellow SportsShooters-
Within the past week, I have had two Lexar 1GB 80x cards fail on me. Two different cameras were used, each time the cards were re-formatted in the camera, prior to shooting. They would work, then fail. I then attempted to read the disks in the computer (Mac Book Pro running OS 10.4.7, using Photo Mechanic) the disks was unreadable.
I use a MAC at work, however I tried to re-format the disks on a PC at home, and the formatting failed.
Has anybody had any problems like this? and if so, How did you resolve the problem. Is it a computer problem, after the card data is transferred, then re-formatted, or is it a LEXAR disk problem? Again, I used two different cameras (Canon Mark II and 30D) and had the same failure on two different cards of the smae make.
Thanks--Matthew |

| ->> I have had a similar problem when mixing up using a card with a 20D and 1DmkII. Got a message telling me there was an error reading the card when I tried to drag them to my computer. Solved it by getting 2 new Transcend 2GB cards for $39 ea. I'd donate the Lexar to someone and get a new card. |

->> I had the same issues in the past few months, several of my very old (over a year and a half)lexar 40x 1gb cards have failed. They became unreadable. Lexar replaced the cards at no charge, it just took a while. I just had another one of my old cards go down again. I will be sending it to Lexar as well. I believe that there is a problem with the older cards and the new cameras, I don't know what it is but none of the new cards I have bought or got replaced from Lexar have I had any problems with.
Do CF cards wear out? No moving parts, and all my cards have never been wet or treated harshly etc.. |

->> Matthew, I had the same problem a few months back shooting on deadline. Now I'm scared to use the card (1G, 80x) at all in fear of losing something. I used it only in a Canon 20D, and it never did this before.
Also, this past weekend, I had a Sandisk 1G Extreme III card pull a similar stunt by corrupting just a select few images. The computer (a Mac) wouldn't even allow me to move the files.
I'm not sure what the problem is, but I'll be sending the Lexar card back and probably switch brands. Again.
My best guess is that it has something to do with the 20D/30D, or maybe just newer cameras with older cards as Louis suggested. All I know is I'm tired of the problem. |
