How to apply xmp metadata to raw file?

->> So I just realized that all the metadata I have applied in Adobe Bridge has just been putting the data into the xmp files. Yah, it sucks since all my magazine submissions have no metadata like I thought they did.
Anyways, at least I caught it now.
So, is there any tool or way to transfer that metadata from the xmp file to the actual raw photo file? I guess I could run through them all and convert to .dng files, which I've thought of doing, but I'd like to know if there is any tool that could do it without the .dng conversions.
Any help would be appreciated. Man I feel like an idiot! |

->> You can use Photo Mechanic version 4.4 or later.
Open a contact sheet of RAW files in Photo Mechanic. Select all. Under Tools, select Update IPTC/XMP and set it to read IPTC/XMP from RAW. Update. The metadata from the XMP sidecar files should now be embedded in the RAW files.
I just tried this out and it worked with Canon 1DIIN RAW files... the caption info that was added in Bridge via XMP sidecar files remains and is readable in Photo Mecahanic after the sidecar files are removed from the folder.
Just curious: Why don't your magazine submissions have any of the metadata transferred to them? Usually when you process RAW files through Photoshop, the metadata will be embedded in the final file format. Are you using a RAW converter other than Photoshop? If so, then it's possible that the RAW converter does not recognize the XMP sidecar file. Anyway, using Photo Mechanic will solve your existing problem. If you don't currently use/own a copy, you can download a fully featured demo version at the Camerabits website.
You probably already know this, but you can do all the same captioning, including some powerful batch captioning features, that you do now with Bridge in Photo Mechanic. |

->> Photo Mechnic is not copying over the IPTC Core data with my contact info, etc. It's copying everything it has fields for, but not the others I want. I'm using the latest version. Just found out on their message boards that they don't support the new IPTC data yet.
My submissions have the metadata in the TIFF's however I also need to send the raw and Bridge just puts it all in the .xmp, so my raws don't have the metadata as the xmp's were not included. |

->> I don't know TOO much about what you guys are describing, but is this perhaps a problem that could be solved by OS-X's automator ?? either that, or photoshop actions... They're not things I use often, but they strike me as perhaps being useful in this situation...

| ->> I'm on a PC. CS2 applies metadata templates via xmp files, not actually imbedding them in my raw .cr2's |
