Mac OS date problem with files
Jonathan Roberts, Photographer
Louisville | KY | USA | Posted: 3:40 PM on 05.17.06
->> When I copy images from a compact flash card, the "Date Created" time is Dec. 31, 1903, 7 p.m. for all files. The metadata/exif info, however, is correct. It's not a problem when the card only has one job on it. That is, all those files are copied to one folder. The problem with the bogus time stamp comes when trying to separate two or three events on one card in order to copy the correct files to separate folders. I'm using 10.3.9.

->> you can use photo mechanic (i'm using PM 4.4) to change the "date created" info.

open PM
open folder of files to be changed
select all files to be changed
under tools select adjust capture dates and times
use tool to make appropriate changes
check appropriate boxes
click on adjust
done

->> Photo Mechanic and Nikon View list the correct times. The folder containing the images on the card and those copied to folders on the computer have the incorrect date and time (date created), Dec. 31, 1903 7 p.m. for all the files.

->> There is also an option in Photo Mechanic under the Files tab, "Update creation time of photos with capture time during copy or ingest" that I use to take care of this problem.

->> Hey Jonathan. I get this alot when my powerbook battery dies. If you are not using PM 4.4 yet, you can fix these dates with a little program called PhotoInfo. Handles individual files or batches. It's free and can be found at versiontracker.com Quite handy.
