| ->> So after looking at past discussions on the topic, there seems to be little in the way of concensus on the topic, so to keep it simple please tell me which batteries you use and how long has the life of the battery been.. I have a CTA but it seems similar to the Canon batteries. I am just looking for a cheaper/or better alternative. Thanks! |

->> I have the Black Diamond ones, about 1/3rd the cost and they seem to last about 25% longer per charge at the very least, I think they are 2200mha vs 1600 for the Canon battery.
They dont fit quite as well as factory, but never had I had a problem |

->> Andy,
I'm sure you've read the many problems people have had with clone batteries. I decided to try a couple anyways (some cheap Ebay no-name brand) and had to return them. They didn't stay in my 1D, they didn't fit the charger and then once I finally got them charged, they went from full to empty to full erratically.
I recently had 2 of my old batteries re-built by an Ontario company. For $50 (Canadian) each, I got 2 batteries that work as good as OEM and fit perfect. They had to break the casing to get to the inside, but they re-glue it really well and other than a few scratches, they look stock.
The company for those who might be interested is Battery Boys of Mississauga. (905) 564-7865 ask for John.
I liked this option because I know they are as weatherproof as the OEM Canon batteries.
Cheers,
DB |

->> I got a pair from the NPPA store, Delkins, that seem to last twice as long as the stock Canon one that came with my MK2N. I did tweak a pin or two on one putting it on the charger while in a hurry, but careful manipulation straightened them out and now I just take extra time to plug it in.

->> I have two Canon OEM ones and two Black Diamond ones. Just last night I had to change the battery in my 1dmk2. I had taken just over 2,000 shots with the 300mm f2.8 on that battery.
The Black Diamond batteries are really nice and really cheap. They seem to fit a little tighter than the Canon ones. It is a little harder to get them all the way in before you turn the lock. It usually takes me two tries. For some that may mean missing something important but I haven't problems yet. They are still fairly new yet so they might loosen up a little. |

| ->> On the Black Diamonds, take your end caps off your old Canon battery and but it on the BD. Fits like a glove and lasts forever..2 screws and its done |

->> I bought some of the replacement batteries at Batteries Plus. I had two for my D1x, and one for my 1D. They've all fit fine and the battery life was a lot better.
The 1D replacement is a bit tighter when securing the battery than the Canon batteries, but it's breaking in still. I think it's the weather seals. |

| ->> I have another 1D class battery that's an 3rd party item, it fits in tighter than the Canon originals I have at the moment. I'm intending to rip out the battery case, and load them up with Sanyo 2100 mAh batteries, but I'm not so keen on soldering them myself. Will share the information should I be able to pull it off myself. |
