| ->> Personally I think it's too early to switch. Hopefully the Photoshop universal binary won't be too long, after that, it will be close to time to switch. |

| ->> I have a chance to get one on Wednesday using an educational discount saving me $200 off the $2499 price so I was hoping to take advantage of that. I also need another machine for my events and this with my 20 inch monitor gives me that plus a new machine for the office when not using it for events to replace my G5 desktop. I was hoping to hear from people that have one to get some feedback than what I've read in macworld and a few other places. |

->> Apple likes to keep this on the down-low, but you can save a heck of a lot more buy applying as a student developer ($99 a year with a valid student number) and getting the developer discount. I believe the $2499 MacBook Pro is then $1999. http://developer.apple.com/
That said, you really should wait at very least until the universal binary version of Photoshop is released. You will not be pleased with the MacBook's performance right now. Please read the other threads on the subject. |

->> Monty - Based on a previous post where you outlined your workflow, and that it looked like most if not all your "in the field" work could be replaced by Photo Mechanic, I would say that if you can do it all with Photo Mechanic, then there is no reason to avoid the MacBook Pro due to lack of a universal binary version of PS.
Since 4.1 (I think), Photo Mechanic has been universal binary and should be plenty fast on the MacBook Pro. Certainly should be faster than on a PowerBook G4. |

| ->> Actually Aperture is not currently universal, but it will be by the end of the month with the 1.1 update. |

| ->> If you are using Aperture, as I am, then you know that program can take a good chunk of the work PhotoShop use to do. When the Universal Aperture 1.1 comes in a couple of weeks, that should ease the pain of Adobe dragging their feet. |

| ->> Well, I bought it today and I must say it does scream. Photo Mechanic is very fast, but that app always ran fast. Next test is to add some other apps and see how they run. Initial reaction is that it's very fast. |

| ->> I just used it for a hockey tourney (4 games so far) and it rocks. PM is very fast and I like the fact that it has gigabit ethernet as all the files are imported in on it and then shared to the other computers. I'll have about 12 games tomorrow so I'll really be able to give it a good test, but so far it rocks and the screen is just incredible. The size is great to. Not to big not to small. |

| ->> Monty, how slow were the basics performing? Curves, Levels, Unsharp Mask, Image Size?? Also are you running CS2? Thanks Chris |

->> I'm running CS2 and it doesn't seem slow at all to me. I don't have actuall times for various tasks yet, but I may be able to try something on Sunday when I have some free time.
I added 1G of RAM for a total of 2GB. Didn't seem to make much of a difference as it's very fast at everything.
Hope that helps. |
