The Associated Press was denied credentials to cover the LPGA Fields Open tournament Wednesday in a dispute over new restrictions on use of its stories and photos.
Associated Press freelance photographer Ronen Zilberman refused to sign the form and was denied a credential.
The tournament begins Thursday. |

->> I don't mean to be slamming on the LPGA but why on earth would they do this? I hate to be blunt, but the oranization is no NFL or NBA (Although those organizations are probably smart enough to realize that the AP is in the right) and is really shooting itself in the foot here.
We've have LPGA golfers try to play in the PGA and it's been less than sucessful. This kind of trivializes an already trivial sports entity. |

->> Hmmm....
Sounds almost exactly like the contract I was asked to sign at a recent event sponsored by a major energy drink company. I crossed out the offending paragraphs and handed back the otherwise completed contract. The event staff said I had to agree to their terms in order to get on the course - so...I walked. They seemed a bit surprised that I wasn't ready to hand over my rights.
Too bad none of the other shooters there seemed to have the same feelings. Alas, it's good to see the AP taking a stand on this. It's too bad that things have gone this far south though.

->> After great deliberation and consideration, I have come up with a sample document for your consideration.
Any photographer covering an LPGA event should require that the LPGA sign a credential authorizing the photographer to receive unlimited free golf lessons for 10 people and an unlimited course fee waiver at any LPGA qualified golf course at the time of his/her choosing in perpetuity.
At any LPGA event, a chauffeured air conditioned catered all terrain golf/photography vehicle shall be provided to each qualified photographer. Unlimited access shall be provided to each photographer according to his/her verbal or nonverbal request.
This is an incomplete draft so I'd appreciate input for any additional requirements as necessary.
After completion I will consult with my legal staff for clarification and ratification.
Pending a mutually agreeable outcome with any or all sports photographers, my representatives will then require all athletic directors/ media directors/public relations professionals/advertising agency/athlete (except professional bowlers) or other interested parties to sign the consent form subject to any future modifications by member media professionals, currently living or in any pre-gestational period, voluntary or otherwise.

Yeh sure, but then you'd have to play golf and, as we all know, it's just an excuse for old white guys to dress up like pimps, walk around for an hour and then get pissed at the bar. |
