SWF n' Slide? or other flash generating software comments?

| ->> I've gotten pretty decent with outputting quicktime movies from iMovie slide shows... but now I'm wanting to go after the same effect but with flash so that all PC's can see the movies without all the hassle. I've found that once you tell someone they have to download something, they bag it... So I've been looking at the SWF n' Slide Flash slideshow generating software. It appeals to me because there are a whole lot more ways to look different and it seems to offer a ton of additional options that I didn't even realize were possible. I'm wanting to buy the SWF n' slide and their type font title software as well... I'm looking for opinions from people who may have actually bought and used it or people that are using something else that might be better. Whatever I get MUST be OSX compatible. It has to work in the mac platform as I'm one of those "cold dead hands" guys... |

->> Hi PMR,
Its not out yet, but I am waiting to see PIXTIVITY...the company told me in an email that it will be out in early February.
I saw an ad for it in a magazine and the next morning went to their website...I happen to go there when they were testing the "Pixtivity" portion of their site and saw some of the features and galleries. I went back to the site to check it out some more about an hour later and it was gone.
Anyway, it looked pretty cool from what I saw in the few minutes I had....
Not much (okay, none that I could find) info on OS and system requirements. I did download a trial of their other product Xtivity and it worked on my PC...OSX, who knows.
That's a lot of "non-info" about a product that doesn't even exist yet!

->> PMR-
I have bought and use SWF n'Slide. I love it. It is very easy to use with a great number of options at a great price. You can look at my website:
http://www.photobybruce.com
(I know, it is not even close to the greatest website out there but it does the job.)
My intro as well as the slideshows that are on my wedding page and portraits page were done with SWF n'Slide. As I said, it is very easy to use, very clean and I have never had a problem with it.
I have not used the font program so sorry, no help for you there.
Hope this helps you a little. |

This is your slideshow in a standalone file. Nothing else is needed. For PC's is makes an executable file. One problem I have is that since I am on a Mac it forgets to put the .exe extension. I have to do that manually. I think its a great purchase. |

->> Hey Pat,
I have been promoting SWF n Slide since 03 but I have to say that for the most part I prefer to use Soundslides now. I also have to say that I haven't done nearly as much as I probably could with customizing it. For my "standalone" files I actually use Quicktime exports. I used SWF n Slide to build my whole wedding site a couple years ago, but have started using more soundslides just because I feel it looks nicer and builds so quickly. Here are a couple examples.

The key to keeping these small is sizing the images down correctly before you mash them together and compressing any audio you are using.
Each one has some different kinds of uses which is what its all about these days I guess.

->> I'll obviously have to wait to compare Pixtivity to SWF N Slide (which is an okay program).
However, I think Pixtivity has much more promise in that it:
"...gives you an easy way to generate Albums, Portfolios, Slideshows, Storyboards, Photo Strips, and AutoPlay presentations."
Also, Pixtivity will "then optionally caption and title the photos you want"...this seems like it would be great for PJs. |

->> Slide Show Pro:

Not sure if it will manage caption info, but if it doesn't, mention it to Todd and I bet he'd add in the functionality. |

(It does allow captions.) |

->> Can any of these programs sync the slides to the sound track like you can do with old fashioned Ektagraphic projectors and dissolve controllers?
For example, if you were doing a baseball show and you have a picture of a ball on bat picture, you could sync the crack of the bat sound with the picture showing up. |

->> Since I don't have Flash I went ahead and bought the SWF n' Slide Pro. I'm getting the hang of it and I love being able to get under the hood more than with iPhoto. the range of music quality settings really comes in handy... but I wish there were more slide show options... the strip things make me dizzy...
thanks to all for your comments...

->> SKIP AHEAD A FEW MONTHS....
Since Pixtivity has still not been released, I'm looking into my options again.
I don't really want a slideshow so much, I want more of a web gallery.
(I don't like the PS and Simpleviewer options, so please don't suggest those.)
I'm looking at ACDSee Pro, but the trial version doesn't allow me to make HTML Albums. Is anyone out there using ACDSee Pro to generate HTML Albums? If so, I'd like to see some examples. |

->> Pixtivity is finally released...and I am a bit disappointed. Its a bit weak in areas but has some cool things as well.
It is EXTREMELY easy to use, however.
You can download a trial version (bottom of the page) and see all the features of it here:

-R->>
Ron,
We've been using Slideshowpro for over a year for our non-audio slideshows (we use Soundslides for our multimedia). We used the iPhoto plug-in up until recently when we switched to the new SSP Director method of building and managing the galleries and slideshows.
HUGE step forward for a lot of reasons. However, anything that uses slideshowpro needs flash to build and publish the swf. Although you have to fork out the $$ for flash, you don't have to be highly trained at it to use SSP (I'm a good example of that).
The biggest fault I have found with SSP, both in using the iPhoto plug-in and the new Director, is that captions already entered into the IPTC fields are not automatically pulled in on import. You always have to cut and paste between applications (I cut and paste between Director and photo mechanic - real pain on a slow machine). I have asked for this feature many times from Todd Dominey at SSP and it never goes anywhere.
