anyone ever heard of this OnRequestImages stock agency?

->> so i just ran across this company while looking thru some asmp stuff.

http://www.onrequestimages.com

anybody ever heard of them? and if so, any thoughts? i'm a bit conflicted on how i feel about these guys. the entrepreneur in me (which is tiny, regrettably) thinks "cool", but the photographer in me (hopefully most of me) is appalled.

Why is that? If I got it right from their website you would have to shoot an assignment as one of up to five photographers. Then the client picks what he likes best. If your images are not picked you've worked for free. If they are picked you get only a 50% cut. What's "cool" about that??

->> cool only in the fact that i kinda wished i was the guy who came up with the idea of the website itself, but only in that sleazy donald trump kinda way ; )

yeah, i agree that a bunch of photogs competing for the same job is horrible. it's evil. the site says that they have a database of up to 1,500 photographers. who are the 1,500? just wondering what's the deal with this company.

->> Yes, I remember this one ... I chatted with a friend who submitted a lot of her clients' baby photos to to requestimages.com agency, she never got paid from this for years. She said that this owner of onrequestimages.com used to be a co-founder with www.picturestock.com ... I am not sure if that's true or not.

->> Let's say you are short in file of the Gateway Arch in St. Louis. You could give out a fake request to five photographers for photos of the Arch for a book. All five shoot it, no one gets paid, OnRequestImages gets to keep the submitted images for stock and fills their files with images, and maybe one day the five photographers will get some money from stock sales. Once again, an agency making money off of inexperienced photographers.
Bad deal.
