->> I am wondering if anybody has heard anything about Aperture.
Is it just like Photo Mechanic?
Is it a step up from anything out there?
Is it worth getting if you already have Photo Mechanic?
Anything.

->> After seeing it in action, I have come to the following conclusion: If you control your photos from capture to delivery to an individual customer, such as wedding or commercial shooter, this could be a fantastic option. However, for PJ's and staff photographers who hand their images off to an editor for distribution, its not such a great tool.
It stores all photos in a central database, called the vault, and any output needs to come via the software export command, rather than each image file being moved in a flexible manner, like it is with the PM/PS combination. The vault really prevents moving images in a really fast manner. My opinion, is PJ's will find it cumbersome.
I see the market for it being the small business photographer. It is a great tool for the shoot/edit/print crowd who want a complete, integrated solution for capture, editing, and outputting their work. As an interesting side note, while there is an option built in to Aperture to order prints, the demo I saw did not mention printing to your own printer. They are really pushing the order prints option.
Also, it is a very processor intensive and GPU intensive program. Powerbooks really aren't the best machines to run it. This really counts out PJ's using it from mobile workstations |

->> The system requirements for Aperture are a killer. I know it won't run on any of my machines. CS2 and Bridge have some issues, but at least it is backward compatible to older (and slower machines). I just don't see Aperture in my future.
