->> ...is a really cool photo collage of an historic theatre!
I love these montages. One of these days I want to work on a project like this.
Thanks for the great image and inspiration!

->> Yeah, I just saw that too. Very cool Jenna.
On the topic of montages... it made me think of the work of artist David Hockney, which I've always liked.

->> Honestly I put it together in about 40 minutes from around 56 photos.
I've shot in that theatre dozens of times, so Gerik Parmele (my new photo editor) and I discussed it and decided to give it a new spin. Since the story was about it being in disrepair, I wasn't trying to make it perfect-- to give it a bit of disjointed look.
I just set up the tripod against a wall, taped the barrel of my 17-55 down to about 35mm and panned back and forth-- sort of zig-zagging, moving the camera angle down just a little each time I finished panning across.
I got back to the office and sized all the photos down to 4x6. I'd look at the sized frames in Photo Mechanic on one half of my computer screen and pull them into Photoshop one at a time on the other half, placing each one the way I liked it before finding the next piece to fit into it. Once I got into the rhythm of it, it was hard to stop! What I thought would just be a test run of trying to do a composite ended up being the final product.
It's so fun! Try it! |
