->> Quick survey: which browsing application do you use to edit your takes from your shoots (Bridge, Photo Mechanic, iView, Nikon/Canon or ANY other browser for edits)?
I'm just trying to get a sense of what is being used out there.
Thanks, --Greg |

->> Photo Mechanic does a wonderful job as it allows you to treat the RAW & Jpg files as "one" - when you hit delete it gets rid of both files which saves an extra step.
My software for workflow is as follows:
Photomechanic - download/caption/initial edit
ACDSee v8 - faster editing for jpg files only
CaptureOne - process RAW images
Photoshop - only for toning/sizing if required.
Photoshelter - post my best shots for editors/clients.
Hope that helps. I know that more and more software companies are offering one-stop-shop applications for doing all of this but I still haven't found one that does them all the way I want. Aperature looks great but I can do all the things Aperature does with these applications and I like the final output. Also, I'm on PC so Aperature won't work for me (yet).

->> Greg,
If you're using a PC, give BreezeBrowser a shot:
http://www.breezesys.com/BreezeBrowser/index.htm
Not as popular here as Photo Mechanic (only four percent use it according to the poll Brad noted), but when coupled with sister app Downloader Pro I think it gives Photo Mechanic a run for it's money.
Combined, these two programs cost substantially less than Photo Mechanic. Aside from the internal FTP capabilities, I'd argue that BreezeBrowser is equally - if not more - robust.
From a browsing standpoint, it's the best IPTC-aware application that I've come across that can "quickly" render full-size RAW 1DMKI previews without shooting RAW+JPEG or creating viewing JPEGS after download.
Hope this helps,
Dave |
