Photoshop 7.0 and DCS520 problem

->> Help! I am using a different computer, which has PhotoShop 7.0. (I usually use 5.0). I'm trying to open images shot on my DCS520. I'm used to 5.0 opening by "reading DCS photo format," then I'd click o.k. and it would launch into Photoshop.
With 7.0, I open a file and it skips reading the DCS Photo Format, but simply opens the tiff file as a thumbnail. If I raise the resolution to 200 dpi, it is not usable.
Is there some obvious setting or adjustment that I am overlooking in the process?
Thanks in advance,
Nell Redmond |

->> Nell:
Go to the Kodak site and get the Photoshop file format filter. This is not the twain driver, but a file import filter which will allow Photoshop to open the files directly.
This filter must have been installed in the other machine you have been using. |

| ->> If you're using Mac OS X and Photoshop 7, to my knowledge, there are no plugins that will open a Kodak DCS RAW file in this combination. Everything works fine in Photoshop 7 running through Classic mode. You can use DCS Acquire 5.9.3 and Photo Mechanic. The only OS X-only workflow I know of is Kodak PhotoDesk 3, unfortunately its slower than molasses. If you're using a PC, just ignore me :) -sg |

| ->> If you are just temporarily using this other couputer and don not want to add any programs to it you can (if you have the latest firmware installed in your 520) convert the Kodak Tiffs to jpgs in camera. |

->> Nell ...
I have a DCS 520. I open images on both Mac and Windows formats. You need to download the Kodak Photodesk. It's free and online.
You can use it to open your photos, save them to a folder, then open in photoshop. At the link below, chose the "firmware and software downloads." You will then be asked to enter an email address to register. Afterwards, you will then be given a pull down menu and choose Kodak DCS Photodesk. Download it and install.
I would personally drag all of my images off the card onto a new folder on your desktop. It's quicker this way.
You can then open Photodesk and view a folder as a contact sheet. To view an image full sized, just double click on it. To save an image, right click and do a "save as." I save them as jpgs and give them a new file name to distinguish between the ones I have opened and saved.
Once you do this, you're ready to open in Photoshop. Any problems, drop me a line.
