->> Hi, has anyone used Photo Mechanic in both a PC and a Mac? I want to know if the PC version is the same, as good etc. I am writing an article about the software and wanted to check on the PC side.

Thanks!

Ira Gostin

->> Ira, I had an older version of PM that was PC. I haven't used it it in over a year. I don't know if it's because of improvements with the newer versions, but I do find that PM is just more consistent and smoother on a Mac.

I think the building of Previews, and the interaction between running PM and opening images in Photoshop via the "Edit" command functions much better in the Mac Versions.

Otherwise, the functionality of PM on the PC side was very much the same. I went from PC to Mac, and never used the systems concurrently, so my thoughts might be slightly skewed. I found that most everything just ran smoother on the Mac.

->> Currently they are very similar with one big exception - Photo Mechanic for Windows cannot write IPTC info (during ingest or otherwise) to Raw files and Tiff files.

That will change in 4.4, which is rumored to be approaching release. If you are reviewing the software, I'd wait untill 4.4, since there are numerous features being added (Spotlight integration, the ability to change EXIF data on Raw files (Esp. the ability to fix bad create times, so if your cameras' clocks are out of synch, you can repair the files so they flow according to the same timeline)).

In my experiance using both platforms daily, the files transfer well; if I mark a photo with a color code, it shows up on the other platform, tags transfer, rotations are remembered. Camerabits does a great job of keeping the two platforms as close to in synch as possible.

->> I use both MAC (for work) and PC (personal) versions. It is a seamless process. They are so similiar.
