| ->> Maybe my screwey 1D MkII will be replaced by a 1D MkII N as it's currently in the Canon repair shop! That'd be good so long as the "N" doesn't stand for "Not as good" |

Nikon would sure love that. :P |

->> I see pro's and con's to the new Mark II N. The bigger LCD is nice, not a must have for me though. I'm not blind and I don't plan on editing my photos on the camera. The bursts, cool, but I rarely use the motordrive as it is. The ability to configure a custom 4 letter file name, awesome, but I use Photo Mechanic and it renames them automatically on ingest. It's a possibility I may pick one up in the future, but it's not a gotta have right now thing, I'm fine with my regular Mark II's.
The 5d on the other hand, wow! I already e-mailed Jeff Snyder asking to be put on the waiting list. I'm a student, I can't afford a MkII1Ds, it'll be awesome to have a full frame camera!
The 24-105 f/4 looks impressive I might add.
Brad, nice article, thanks for the insight!

->> The 9999 rollover has been driving me nuts for years, so I'm glad to see that it's "fixed" in the MkII N. In fact, it's probably the only compelling reason for me to get this camera.
But why Canon doesn't offer this fix as a firmware update to the existing MkII is beyond me! |

->> I'm always amazed by people saying, "why doesn't it have this, why doesn't it have that"
Regarding the 5D, they can't put ALL the features of the flagship cameras on the 5D, what incentive would there ever be to purchase the 1D cameras anymore if they put them on the 5D. I think it's always going to come down to a compromise of several cameras rather than having ONE all inclusive camera, it would kill so much of their sales. |

->> Michael,
Yeah but why make the fps slower(3 vs 5) and the sync speed (200 vs 250) slower than the 20D when it's half the price? |

| ->> It's not replacing the 20D nor is it an upgrade. It's a NEW camera meant to be a cheaper alternative to the 1Ds Mk11. |

->> I just read Brad's article on the two new cameras. I needed a second Mark II and was about to plan to buy one but I noticed that there was nothing said about the megapixels going up and the 5D is up to 12.5 or something.
Its not that 8mp is bad, I just want to have the most you can have in this day and age. Also, I want a full frame camera. Sometimes I feel like I am losing out on the full story when the camera doesn't go as wide as I need it to.
If Canon can do the full frame with the 1Ds MkII and the 5D, why can't Canon do that with the 1D MkIIn?
Also, I had no problem with the screen. I had a problem with the 1D screen's color being so off. It came to a point where I just carry it around stadiums just to hold my 70-200.

->> I was really looking forward to the full-frame 5D, but the 1/200th sec flash synch kills it for me. I was hoping to use it as a wide-lens camera, but without adaquate fill-flash I just don't see how I can make it work for outdoor protraits.
I'm sure they're great cameras and will produce fantastic images, but I'd hate to think about going back to the days of the Nikon F3 and a 1/60th sec flash synch.
Looking forward to some cheap 1DMk II bodies!!! |

->> Oh, yeah, before I forget: Canon people, If you're reading this, make an LCD screen with a built-in diopter. Some of us with sagging eye-ball muscles are getting a little embarassed at how short our arms a getting. Instead of making it BIGGER, make it adjustable so I don't have to go fishing for my CVS reading glasses. Just a wish.

->> After a bit more thought, maybe the 1/200th flash synch on the 5D isn't such a killer after all. I just read the camera spcs on the Galbraith site http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/index.asp and at the 50 ISO setting I can synch my stobes just fine at a 200th sec.
I'm still a little dissapointed in a lower synch, but I think an affordable full-frame camera is a good thing. I'm not kidding about a diopter in the LCD screen, though. |

->> Roger:
I think the slower FPS and sync speed are results of having a larger full-frame sensor and in resolution increase. I can't find the link at the moment but once you understand how CMOS sensors work it makes sense why the 5D specs are as such. This also answers Jeff Lewis' question about why the 'N' is not full-frame. Making the N full frame would drop the FPS to probably around to something between 3.5 and 5 fps, and lower the flash sync speed to the same 1/200th. Better for Canon to come out with a completely different body and specs to meet the creative photo community. |

| ->> I'm happy that they replaced the 420EX with the 430EX. I felt that the former was inadequate to supplement a 550 or 580, but now there is something that can affordably. |
