Ever used a blimp?

->> I am working on a movie set for a couple of weeks on and off, and didn't want to rent a blimp, so I made one. It'd probably be handy for shooting Tiger as well, as it's both soundproof and pretty waterproof ;-).

Has optical glass for the viewfinder and LCD as well, and was approved by the sound guys.
Anyone else had to use one of these monstrosities? They're bulky, but necessary in some situations. |

| ->> Tony - nicest blimp I've seen - wow! My dad was a set photographer - and I worked on a few sets when I started - so I've used the real thing... I wonder if you could create a good seal on the lens port somehow--- then you'd have an underwater camera!!!! :) Well for a few feet anyway. V |

| ->> How do you look through the view finder? Is there a hole in the back or do you just point and shoot? |

->> Paul,
There are two holes in the back, sealed with glass/silicone, one for viewfinder and one for the LCD. |

| ->> Looks like it would also work nicely as a double-naught spy briefcase camera. |

->> Tony,
Did the production ask you to use a blimp, or was it your choice? -I've shot stills on several independent features and shorts and I know trying to grab good production stills of the actors only during rehearsals is a pain, and even more difficult sometimes depending on where the Director and DP stand, not to mention grips and other crew members running through the back of the frame during rehearsals. |

| ->> The director. I was shooting during rehearsals and it bugged him. Now that I have it, I can shoot even when film/sound is rolling, and the sound guys aren't even bugged by it. Was a LOT cheaper than the custom-made ones I've rented (and wanted to buy), is lighter and seems more rugged. I guilt things into it that I wished the others had had. |

Can you please send me the directions to build one? |
