What do I do with the software that came with my Mark II 1D?

->> I just received my new Canon Mark II 1D and EOS 20D. Being a new Canon user, I have no idea what I should do with the software that came with the camera bodies. Do I install it or not? Can I use it to customized my settings on my cameras? Also, I am using PhotoShop CS and Photo-Mechanic. I plan on shooting mostly RAW images.

Many thanks in advance,
Jonathan Cohen

->> Hi Guys,

Well, I don't think your missing anything crucial by not installing the SW. But there's some interesting stuff you can do to customize the camera with the "personal functions" which supplement the custom fuctions. Unfortunately these are programmable only while tethered to a PC using the Canon sw. I like the shutter hold while on single shot motor drive. Too bad they couldn't include all of these PFs as extended CFs in-camera. Not convenient. But to be honest, a lot of the PFs are nice but not necessary unles syou have some uncommon need.

Another benefit with the SW is you can save "profiles" you create with the PFs as you mix and match them. Then you push them to the camera as you see fit.

Your probably not missing much with the RAW converter if you use third-party apps like Breeze Browser or CS2.

But if you don't already have a workflow with such programs, it's nice of Canon to include these utilities to get you started :)

cheers,
Christian
