Photo Mechanic or Fotostation

->> Howdy all...

This isn't meant as a Nikon vs Canon type thread.

I need to know pros and cons. Anybody have a problem with either? Are they basically both the same? Either one have a feature that you feel is more helpful than the other? Has/does anyone use both?

I am going to be running a 1D and a new g4 powerbook so any like experiences would be helpful.

Thanks...

Easy to ID File Info and Object Name. Once you apply the overall IPTC you can do a whole (stock) take from a baseball agme in about 45 min. If you need to write specific captions for each (select) image, a bit longer.

I use both but fotostaion seems to be faster when captioning a lot of images from the same event.

->> We have a crappy 'freeware' version of Photo Mechanic and I love it. I want to have the whole thing so I'm trying to convince the powers that be to buy it for me. It's pretty cheap too, from what I understand.

I like it a whole lot better than Nikon view V.

I wish it would handle Canon RAW files (rather than just pass them to PhotoShop)...but hopefully that's coming. Because of that I shoot mostly in JPEG.

I've been using Photo Mechanic as long as I've been shooting digital (98) and it has served me well...

I'm going to look into both since I will be shooting Canon RAW.

Thanks again!

->> Kevin,

Take a look at Iview Media Pro before you decide.
I use it in my work (MAC only at this time) and it is great.

I have friends using Photomechanic, but Iview looks simpler and friendlier to me. I'm shooting usually 1-3 thousand images a weekend.
