ExposureManager.com special for SportsShooters

->> Just wanted to let other event photographers know that exposuremanager.com is offering a deal for SportsShooter members. I have been using them for the last year, and the service has evolved to incorporate many of the suggestions Sportsshooter members have requested on this board and from other services. I don't have any connection to them financially, but I always see people asking about features and services that they readily offer and suggested they offer a discount or deal for sportsshooter like Printroom did last year to encourage people to give them a try.
I met with the owner when I was out in California at last year’s luau and made several suggestions based on my own experience, what I had heard from other photographers and what I had read on Sportsshooter and other forums. Some of the features that I find give it the edge over Printroom, Shutterfly or Photoreflect, and I have/had accounts at those services as well. You can compare their services here - http://www.exposuremanager.com/scripts/website.pl?rm=compare - but here are some of the things that I like after using all four services at various times over the past three years.
*Unlimited storage on the event account
*Lower commission than printroom (same printer)
*Fully customizable with branded page headers and page footers
*Can upload different dimensions after an order is placed for the same image if needed.
*Watermarking, sharpening and color correction upon upload - you set what you want done and to what degree.
*Set your own image sizes in the display galleries
*Offer self fulfillment if desired
*Uses FTP to upload directories/folders and it creates galleries based on that structure.
The FTP feature is one of my suggestions and it works great. If you shoot say a soccer tournament. Put each game in a folder with a label. All the game folders in a folder with the tournament name, and then use FTP to upload. The galleries are created based on the names of the folders. You can upload full-size images or you can upload smaller versions for faster upload.
They are offering for SS members until Sept 1st:
50% off their event account for the life of the account, which has unlimited storage. Use coupon code ‘sportsshooter_event’
That comes to $5 a month, has credit card processing built in, and is customizable.
Or you can sign up for a free (for one year) art account – which has limited storage. Go to: www.exposuremanger.com and when you sign up, put in ‘sportsshooter_art’ under coupon code.
Basically if you sell one photo a month – even if you are charging less than you should – it pays for the service. But the real payoff is in workflow and the customer service offered by the owners/developers who respond quickly to questions and positively to suggestions that will enhance the service to facilitate more sales. |

->> In both ExposureManager and Mike's sites, going from one page to another is slow (at least a couple of seconds). Does anyone else feel the same way? (I guess something is wrong on my side...)

->> Might be something on your side, Osamu...
I seem to be bouncing around pretty darn quickly.
Thanks for the heads-up, Mike!
I've been looking for a possible alternative to DotPhoto, who I've been using... I think this might be the trick. Worth a try, anyway... do they also leave your stuff up as long as you want them to? DotPhoto now drops all galleries after 60 days, unless you want to start paying more... |

->> the FIRST thing I notice is that I can print the pictures directly from the site; which means that you are givinh away pictures.
I printed a 3.5x5 print on regular paper that would be "good enough" if I was a parent that just wanted some pictures for my scrapbook.
How do the backend reports look (sales statistics, customer statistics, etc)?

->> Delane,
You can adjust the protection settings. On many of my galleries I have it turned off because I have been paid up front for the work, and allow parents or friends, or family to download.
FYI
Reports are good. You can also see how many times a particular image has been viewed, sales by customer, etc..
It might not be the perfect solution - what is - but I think it offers some neat things like if a parent orders a 4x6 and an 8x10 of the same image, you can upload a version of each. |

->> Hmmm, $5 a month. It says that the price too is $80 a year, would that be in half to $40 a year with the SS.com discount?
I have the same questions as MIke, how long are the galleries up for? Are they removed after a certain amount of time? |

->> How about built in protection of images?
In one click 'n drag I was able to pull an image from Derek's site to my drive. It's plenty good to use on a webpage or email to someone since it's 72dpi at the size displayed. SportsShooter and PhotoShelter use some tricks to make it more difficult to snag images right off the pages.
After I was showed a print someone made from an image off my site using 72dpi photos in a 500x500 box I immediately started watermarking my images. |

->> Greg,
Check out watermarking options in the blog...
http://blog.exposuremanager.com/2005/03/watermark_tutor.html
As has been said many times here, the only way to prevent theft on the web is to not put photos on the web. Screen grabs, etc. (including here and on photoshelter.) But flexibility.
For me, with exposuremanager and plain old FTP; it will _always_ beat the best performance of the best "web upload" style of upload. (No timeouts; frequent when I used printroom.)

| ->> I use a local lab to print most of my work. Can I still use them along with exposuremanager or do I need to use their lab for my print work? I have a nice system in place with my local lab and I wouldn't want to change as their prices are a little lower than exposuremanager and they do trmendous work. I did call them and aksed the question, but I haven't gotten a response yet. |

->> I too just signed up for a year of this service. I am curious as to how I get my domain name to point towards this service. I read the info below but can't make any sense of it. Could someone please help me out?
You need to instruct your domain register to point all web traffic to the entered domain to Name Alias or CNAME accounts.exposuremanager.com. Please contact us if you need further instructions. |

->> Steve,
Send in a request to the support section of exposure manager and they will get back with you shortly.
What I do, is I have a main page - www.mikebrice.com and then links to the different galleries off of that. So a link to the dalton wizards baseball team off my main page would be www.mikebrice.exposuremanager.com/g/dalton
Hope this helps. Feel free to contact me directly through my member page. |

| ->> I have fully made the switch to exposuremanager.com and am very happy with it. (I don't see this as advertising but instead informing other ss.com members of what else is out there). The owners of it are constantly working with the photographers to make it a better site and more user friendly. If you are searching for a site to sell your photos on, I recommend http://www.exposuremanger.com |
