As far as their printing, they can send you a color chart (both a printed one and the file). And the quality is really nice...I have printed things up to 16x20 and do not have any complaints.

Personally, because I do not do much printing, it is a great way for me to get prints for personal use and still have the ability to offer the clients that want prints that option. Plus, in my opinion, they are the best in both cost and in customer service.

->> I'll second Thad's recommendation. Carlton and Jude have offered so many ideas and options anytime I've asked and they've been quick to personally reply when I've had a question. If the lab has questions, they call and the problem gets taken care the first time.
printroom.com is an up and coming company that you'll see expanding and growing to meet photographer's needs and help them find work in new markets. And no, I don't get a commission for this unsolicited testimonial. I just started with them early on and I've been very pleased by all phases of their service and services offered.

Their large prints had a little to be desired but they just upgraded to a better machine and I've been assured that now the large prints will be every bit as vibrant as the small prints are. Their prints from 11 x 14 down have been wonderful. I've never had better from any lab I've ever used. I recommend these guys highly!

->> is it still true that for photo galleries printroom hosts you need to post images that are ready for printing? compared to photoreflect.com which posts thumbnails for the galleries? i was looking into printroom a while back but i didn't want to have to optimize all the images i posted. i only wanted to do that for the ones customers ordered. does that make sense? any opinions on photoreflect?

->> I believe you can now upload low res images and printroom will contact you when someone orders prints.
I use Printroom for all of my print sales and they've been phenomenal. You can see how many visits per gallery, you can see what photos are ordered, who orders them, and what size they order...very useful information just by logging into your sales reports. I've received a lot of positive emails from clients that reorder photos every season, which tells me they're very satisfied with the photos.

They seem to be working on a Mac version of the software that allows you to make and upload the thumbnails for viewing. Then the full size images with the same file names on CD for them to print from.

->> Question for printroom.com users: When you upload images, how are you sizing them (i.e. 8x10 300ppi jpeg9?) What about when someone orders a 5x7 or 4x6 from that image, how do they fit into the correct format . . . are they automatically cropped? What have you found is the best way to size images sent there that might be printed out in different sizes?

Thanks for any info.

->> PJ,
I upload the images to printroom as they come out of the camera. So whatever camera the image is shot with, I make sure it's the largest jpeg file in fine mode. Printroom really does the rest. Also this software that they have allows you to upload only thumbnails and then send them a CD with the full size images on it. They print from the full size files but you upload the thumbnails.

In the ordering process the client does have some cropping, it's pretty limited and I would say that it's less "cropping" than centering.

Printroom also sells a lot of stuff that I wouldn't even know how to size such as maganets for the fridge, T-shirts, coffee mugs, etc. So giving them the file out of the camera has worked well for us.

->> I've been using Printroom.com for a while now, and have been very happy with their service. I like being able to offer prints while not having to produce them myself. They also let you tie in their serivce to your own website very nicely. Here's an example from my website:

http://www.islerphoto.com/cgi-local/gallery.cgi?path=watersports&selected=W...

It makes things very easy for me. I simply have a high-res version in a directory on my website, and pass the location of that image as a hidden variable in the "purchase print" button. They take care of the rest. Also, they recently added the capability to use files tagged with AdobeRGB for a wider gamut...previously it was only sRGB.
