->> Hi there everyone...i was wondering if anyone can tell me weather you find keh to be a reliable sourse for buying used equipment.....i am asking this because i am looking at buying a used canon 1d, but they have stock pictures of the cameras so i can't see what they actually look like, and they don't mention actuations or any thing about its condition other then the grade...and how accurate are there grades.
Thanks,
Sam Adams |

->> I've bought a few things there - no problems. The last item - a 300 - was in better shape than I thought it would be, actually. Rated a "bargain," the lens was in excellent condition. Just a few scratches on the brass nameplate (which I tape over anyways), and no lens hood. I was very pleased.

->> Sam
I have not bought from KEH in the past 3 years or so because I found thier prices a little....well "pricey," however I found them to be a very reliable place to shop in the 10+ years I did shop at KEH. KEH's rating system is very accurate, items are often nicer than described.
I'd never sell them anything (they pay way to little and have a sales contract which is totally decieving), however buying I'd never question thier reliability. |

->> I'll triple what David and Steven have said... KEH has a tendency to UNDERRATE their gear. I've been pleasantly suprised with everthing I've bought from them being in better shape than I hoped. I have bought a couple of film cameras and a handfull of lenses from them over the years.
Plus they have a decent return policy if the camera doesn't meet your approval:

| ->> i bought some of my first professional lenses from them 15 years ago. they were in better condition than keh said. i have bought from them several times since and everything is always better than they say it is. i wouldnt worry about it at all if the price was what i was happy with. |

->> pretty much what everyone else said, selling stuff you get terrible money, can do better on ebay. Buying has been good in my limited experience. Another friend bought a lens that wasn't as advertised, if I recall it didn't work for some reason and so he called and they overnighted him a higher rated (condition) lens at no cost.
It's a safe place to buy used equipment, however as someone mentioned the prices are reflective of the safety. You might be able to do better on ebay or on the sportsshooter classifieds. |

->> Everyone seems to have had similar experiences. I dealt with them recently and while they generally have decent prices on their gear, selling to them isn't a great option.
I've also noticed that sometimes the "excellent plus" and "like new" rated items are not that much cheaper than new gear. |

->> I've only had a couple of experiences with them, but they were both positive.
I once ordered a flash with the wrong suffix. It didn't work with my camera. They were more than happy to exchange it. It cost me shipping 3 times - but it was my own fault.
BTW - I too believe it was in better condition than described. |

| ->> I recently purchased an Canon EOS 3 from them and other than the fact it was shipped without the original packaging, you'd swear the camera was new. They're very reliable. I've also found that they pay much better for used equipment than B&H, Adorama, etc.... |

| ->> I have used KEH on a few occasions, and so have a few other colleagues. Due to the way they rate their equipment, I have found purchasing anything rated better than Excellent to be a waste of money because it is often indistinguishable from like new. |

| ->> I've bought a few things from them and only had one problem with an underwater camera that I bought (and I'm not totally sure it wasn't user error and not a defect), which I returned and they returned my money no problem. I would gladly buy from them again. |

->> I will have to say that since I am within 20-30 minutes driving time of KEH 95% of all my gear comes from there. Over the years I have had all positive experiences every time. If I get there and don’t like something they will fix it change it or adjust the price so it’s all good for both of us, I have never left unhappy.
They really do "Under-Rate" their items. Buy from KEH to get great deals but to sale its better to sale on here in the classifieds or Ebay.
As far as repair, I have taken cameras by the repair department for CCD cleaning and service and told them I really needed it back ASAP for a shoot (hoping for a 5-7 day repair wait). I picked it up the following morning, those guys are awesome. |

| ->> Everything I've ever bought from KEH was in pristine condition no matter what it was rated. Shipping is fast and reliable, and their prices are fair among their peers in the industry. I too would not sell gear to them but have never had a bad experience buying from them. Just placed an order yesterday in fact. Need a teleconverter for rodeo season! |

| ->> I used to sell some things to them that I was not using. I say used to because they made the mistake of sending a reciet back with equipment that they would not pay $200 for. It was way over $1000. I have not looked at anything to do with them since. |
