This looks like a pretty sweet deal, but I haven't heard anyone chime in on it yet. Anyone have any more details of how it will all work? I was just glad to see names like ASMP and APA in there rather than Getty or Corbis. |

->> ASMP is one of the few associations for photographers which there general members have had to pass a portfolio and business review. The business part is they have had to be doing photography for 3+ years before applying as a general member.
The "Find a Photographer" aspect for designers is great with ASMP. Only the general members are listed, so it is pretty safe to say the work is high caliber and the members are aware of good business practices. This is a lot better than googling to find a photographer.
ASMP has been aggressively pursuing situations like this one where those they partner with will have an immediate quality of photographers to draw upon.
I believe ASMP is the cream of the crop when it comes to editorial photographers. They help you business wise and it is a great group to network with to learn even more. |

->> Imagine - any ad agency photo buyer, or any photo editor can just look up your work in Photoshop and get all of your contact info. This is the new ASMP deal with CS2.
As an ASMP member the email about this new marketing prospect in my box this morning was very welcome! It's a marketer's dream. Free advertising in the world's largest photo editing software. What's not to like? I couldn't even get this much marketing of my work if I tried - at any price - let alone the $300 membership fee. Way to go ASMP. This is going to be really sweet.
Cheers, Michael

| ->> I've got a conference call with other ASMP leaders tomorrow. One of the main discussions will be implementing the Adobe list. I would be happy to share whatever I learn from the discussion. |

| ->> I've been a member of ASMP for years and as soon as I got that message today at my office, I was in... I had to try no less than seven times to get access to the page on their server, so I obviously wasn't the only one who thought it was a great deal... It's free marketing... Gotta love it... pm-r |

->> I don't have any direct knowledge of this, but the cynic in me sees a red flag.
First I see that CS2 will incorporate an RF browser. Now I see that ASMP has a deal with Adobe. Is it possible that this agreement with ASMP is a tradeoff for ASMP not protesting the RF modeule?
I'd appreciate hearing from anybody with inside knowledge.

->> Not a tradeoff but a Professional Photographers organization helping it's membership. I also believe that in the future, it will be open to other photographers, not just ASMP members.
It sucks that they are only supporting RF, but at this time, RF is the only stock model that allows a buyer to go online and buy images without having to negotiate the price. The buyer does not need to talk with anyone to make a purchase. Adobe sees it as one stop shopping for it's customers.
As better agencies with newer technology come along, we will also see this change. As photographers, we need to make sure that Adobe knows how we feel about RF.
Adobe has a huge market share, some would say a monopoly, and they are using it to their advantage. I heard last year that with this new addition of CS, they will be able to track the licenses of each purchased copy of their software. I also heard that in the future, Adobe will have software that will allow us to put the same info in our metadata that will allow use to track our images online.
Although I have not seen CS2, the file browser is suppose to be the biggest improvement. They seem to want to compete with Photo Mechanic and similar programs. One program that does it all. |
