If the PowerBook is making a "recycle" sound as it tries to eject, gently tap the underside of the PowerBook, directly under the CD unit, with your knuckle and the CD should eject.

I was taught this by the good folks at Apple's Genius Bar after my 70lbs+ dog jumped on my 12" PowerBook and bent the frame of the PowerBook (jammimg my CD unit)

->> You can also try holding down the mouse key on restart. This forces the commputer to try to eject any disk in the drive as it boots up.

->> You can also try booting up your Mac in terminal mode when connected to another Mac via firewire (hold down the "T" key when starting up. Your Mac should show up as a hard drive icon on the other Mac. Navigate to your desktop folder (in Users) and try dragging the CD to the trash from there.

There's also a way do do something deeper using Terminal and Unix but I can't find the mag that had it.

On my 15Gb iPod I keep a copy of OSX and the barebones software I'd need to do my job (Photo Mechanic, Photoshop w/o all the silly plug-ins, Transmit, etc.) in case my Powerbooks's HD craps out. I can boot from the iPod, erase all the music and work. The whole operating system and barebones software takes up around 1.5 Gb on the iPod.
