We would see him during the Ryder Cup from sun-up till sun down carrying all that gear. Photographer extraodinaire !!

I've been his assistant on numerous occasions when he's shooting PRO golf events in and around Dublin. ( Look forward to the upcoming World Golf Champs in a couple of weeks).
That 600mm lens weighs a ton.

Nikon straps were a gift from the Nikon rep at the recent Open Championship ... when the Canon straps broke.
I'm sure I could answer any other mysteries ...

Haha ...

Did I mention I was a qualified Chiropractor ... that's how I got the job !
( haha )

=-=-=-=-=

Alex is not a photo-journalist ... so speed is not really an issue. He is more of an archival photographer capturing every golfer taking part in the tournament. On day 1 of a tournament he usually moves to a chosen spot ( carrying all his equipment like in the photo ) and takes photo's of all participants moving past him. Some tee shots ... and there will be a green nearby too to get some putting shots.

On Day 2 ... similarly, finds a spot where he can get an approach shot from the fairway and more putting shots. That covers the field. Day 3 is normally used to capture golfers that are important to contracts he may have ... and day 4 is normally the day he's a bit more mobile ensuring the leading few players are captured nearer the end of the day.

I can't tell you exactly how long he's been taking golf photo's like this .. but I know he's got at least 10 years of all the majors and Ryder Cups.

All is negatives are scanned for him after development and he's fully digital from that point on. Yes ... I've asked him why he hasn't gone digital, and was told he was waiting for the right FF camera from Canon. Maybe the Mark II will suit him I don't know. I'm also in the process of trying to get all his work onto a golf database ... but I'm sure it's going to be in excess of 150,000 photos.

He's well known and liked by all golfers / caddies worldwide and the most dedicated photographer I've met. He'll be the first one on the course in the morning ... and the last to leave. ( and that's not because he has to walk so slow ... haha ).
Hope this gives you an insight into the 'Man behind the lenses'.

http://www.x2.cc is his portal which is under construction.
