Weird D2H problems with EXIF data...

->> I've run into a rather... odd... problem with my D2H that I can't seem to find information on anywhere (and yes, I've searched the archives here...)
I just finished downloading a shoot I did yesterday of a women's basketball game. I shoot in this particular gym nearly every week, with the same exposure settings. I use an 85mm/f1.8 lens, ISO 1000, 1/400 ... The gym is a veritable cave, and I don't have any strobes to set up...
I opened up my EXIF info to throw my cutline into the file only to find something very odd this week. All the shooting data is either missing, or wildly inaccurate. The camera has recorded things like an aperture of 0.1 (I WISH...) a shutter speed of 1/10, and a focul length of 0.0mm and 8.5mm.
Some of the files are recorded correctly, some are not.
Everything was shot with EXACTLY the same exposure for the whole evening (one of the first things I do when I arrive is meter and lock my exposure settings). I didn't change lenses at all except when I first arrived at the gym.
This isn't the end of the world. It's very rare for me to *NEED* to know my exposure values long after a shoot. A glitch like this IS however cause for mild concern.
Has anyone else had / seen / heard of this problem before?

->> Sounds weird alright. What software are you using to open your EXIF data? You might try to check the original EXIF data, from the ORIGINAL files, using either Nikon View or Nikon Capture, and see if it corroborates the data. If it does, then I'd send those weird files to Nikon, or at least query them first, via their tech message board / Knowledge Database:

If you don't have a logon name/password, you can also sign up for one there.

->> I have also experienced data like this from both the D2H and the D1H cameras when I use Photo Mechanic and view the TIF files after saving them through Photoshop. I did the same thing Ed suggested, checked the original file in Nikon View and it was fine coming out of the camera.
The photos were fine, just something happened to the EXIF data that Photo Mechanic doesn't like. It did concern me when I first noticed it, but there was nothing going on with the cameras.

->> Sounds more like a lens CPU problem rather than a D2H problem. If the camera is writing bad exif info sometimes, but it is still writing data it would seem that the problem comes from the lens CPU. Have you tried other lens / body combinations to duplicate the problem, that may help in identifying the problem. I'm not expert but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night... LOL Hope it all works out.

->> Just so the next poor person searching the threads will have an answer to this question...
Turns out that in the Nikon Transfer "Transfer Options" dialog box, under the "Transfer" tab, there are check-boxes for an "Add additional Information (IPTC field) to all files" as well as a "Copy Shooting Data (shutter speed etc.)to the IPTC caption field"
Checking both of these boxes SEEMS to have cleared up the problem, and I'm now getting COMPLETE shooting information instead of just occaisional / partial information as I was before.
Hope this helps the next person with this problem... (Lets just hope they do a message-board search ;) )
