| ->> Check out Ebay Auction item #3867322677, but do not bid on this item for anything. I was able to get ebay to remove the item once today because of it being a hoax, and now the lens is listed again from the same person using a new seller id and email. |

->> This is the email that I got from the seller after I asked him why he was selling the lens and for such a low reserve. Notice that the lens is mentioned as new and sealed (if so, how did he get the pictures).
Hi,
I received your email regarding my lens. First you have to know that bidding is restricted since I am carefull with my auction, so no one will press the button until I have the assurance that he will buy it. This Canon lens is purchased from an auction organized by the custom here in Romania - it is confiscated from the people who tried to introduce them in the country without paying the taxes, but don't worry it's perfectly legal and I have all the papers. It is brand new and sealed, US version and has 1 year warranty. Final price is $1900 US and I'll pay for ship and insurance of the package.The buyer will receive this along with all papers and recipts that he needs to register it in his name. The Canon lens is in Europe,Romania and it will be shipped from here.Shipping will be done via FedEx and it will take no more then 4 days. When I will ship it,I will declare it as a gift so that you will pay no custom fees when you will receive it and for this it will be delivered directly to your address. The most important thing in all my activity here is that I am affiliated at eBay Square Trade , I have a purchase protection account of $4000 and I assume that you know what this means. The finacial part of this deal will be managed by them.They are accting like a third party in this deal.Also,in case you do not like the lens.....or you are not satisfied, they will refund you 100%. Anyway, I have to let you know that I want a fast deal so if you are really interested in buying it,please reply with the following information:
-Your full name;
-Your shipping address;
-Your eBay user id.
I will look for your email,so that we can move forward with this deal!
Regards,
Radu Iulian RUSU.
Please be aware of this seller! |

->> Nice! I'll take it!
Being that I have a little bit of money left over I thought I'd look for a good deal on a super model now.
Life is good!

->> He was going by this name
Iuliana Cozma
the last time the lens was posted.
I reported him to ebay and Sqauretrade who he claimed who would guarentee the deal. He was very elaborate with his fraud. He sent emails that had a squaretrade return email showing but were indeed not from them.
BEWARE of anyone who doesn't stick with normal ebay practices. Do not send wiretransfers of money!!!
After he was reported his emails suddenly stopped. I tried to keep the information flowing to acutally try and get him to send the lens (whick I doubt there is one) eventually using an escrow service I'm comfortable with.
The story of the Romanian auction is the same. It's been a few weeks since he pulled the auction off ebay last time.
BEWARE!!! |

->> Further to this scam, he is stealing legitmate ebay seller's id's.
And if it sounds to good to be true, guess what.
Escrow.com is the one service I would use for any high priced item. |

| ->> I had a similar experience on EBay with a guy from Great Britain. He was also insistent on working with Squaretrade and would only take a Western Union wire. Thanks to this forum, I insisted on getting a serial number. Of course, he never provided it. I reported him to EBay. About a month ago, several people and I purchased new 24-70 2.8 lenses from a seller who had a 98% approval rating. I checked him out thoroughly. He had sold plenty of items to people with only one negative comment about slow delivery. The price was not extraordinarily low; about a 20% savings over retail. Anyway, I paid through Paypal but he never delivered. I filed a claim with Paypal and they have agreed to cover my "loss." Lesson learned--I won't buy anything on EBay anymore. Plenty of transactions are legitimate, but the only two trades I've done with eBay in the past year were bogus. I'm sticking with the SS classifieds! |

| ->> I'm with Margaret. The only thing I've successfully purchased from Ebay was a couple antique typewriters a few years ago. Out of my two recent buys, one was broken and the other never showed up. I don't have time for that. If I want to buy something broken, I'll go to Wal-Mart. |

->> I have bought many items from Ebay without a problem. That being said you have to do your homework.
Sometimes a low price is an indicator but not always. For example: I just purchased 2 booms for under $50. The seller did not know what they had or that there were 2. They thought it was all one.
Sometimes you get lucky on price and others it is sold over retail.
The one question I always ask is "is the item available for local pickup?". If it is odds are its legit. In expensive items I always arrange for someone or myself to P/U the item and pay at that time. Never making full payment until it is in my hand or agents.

| ->> SCAM BUSTER, If you ever see a something that you absolutely know is a scam, just bid on the item with some extreme amount that way you'll win the bid and you can just not pay. Sometimes you have to take one for the team... |
