1dmk2 & EOS Viewer Utility Problem

->> So I'm trying to sync the date & time on a 1dmk2, 1d and a 20d to my mac. All three have the latest firmware. I fire up EOS Viewer Utility 1.2.1 and the 1d and 20d sync fine. But it refuses to "see" the 1dmk2. Strangely it's listed on the right but when i click on it, I get a "Camera not connected. Check cable." I've tried both digital cables and had no luck. I'm on OS 10.3.6
Has anyone been able to connect thier 1dmk2 to the viewer since the firmware update? And why doesn't the USB digital cable work on the 1dmk2? All these cables...geez. It would be great if others could verify this problem. I've tried it on two computers with different versions of EVU and I get nothing. Thanks. |

->> Matt,
I am having the same problem sometimes, sort of. My problem is with downloading the images, not syncing the date and time. Im guessing its somthing funny with the new firmware. It has happened on both my laptop (powerbook) and my desktop (G4). OS 10.3.7 for both computers. For both, if I disconnect the camera, then restart the EOS viewer and the camera it will usually start to work. But, somtimes it works right away, and sometimes it takes a couple tries. But it says the same thing, "Camera not connected, check cable" Its very frustrating but its good to know I have company.

| ->> Some other boards have reported this problem with the 1D Mark II, with the new firmware 1.1.0. |

| ->> I just had this problem the other day. What I found fixed it for me was to open up DPP, then EOS Capture. After quitting both of those and re-opening the EOS Viewer Utility it would actually connect to my camera (so I could download the images off the SD Card). |

->> I, too, have a problem with EVU and the MkII (firmware 1.10). I'm using a Mac (OS 10.3.7) and when I try to access the camera with EVU I get a message saying that the computer can't see the camera and to check the connection, or something along those lines. At first I thought it was the latest EVU upgrade (which came out in summer '04) so I reinstalled version 1.0. Still no luck. Then I saw this thread and the work-around, but when I launch EOS Capture to try the work around it quits on me right away. Anybody have any ideas on how to get this thing to work?
Thanks,
Jake |

->> Jake, for me, you must open up DPP then open EOS Capture through the menu in DPP. Opening EOS Capture directly will cause it to quit immediately like you experienced.
From what I've read this is an issue with the new firmware 1.1.0, not with a specific version of EVU. |

->> And since we're talking about this thread again,
Anyone on windows have these problems as well? Wonder if it's just a mac thing.
Hopefully Canon is hard at work fixing this. |

| ->> I have tried numerous things to get my Windows ME to see the Camera but still nothing. My pointer goes to hourglass when I power the camera but thats all that will happen. |

->> Kevin,
I'm squared away, thanks for the explaination. Am now able to access personal functions through EVU. BTW, I called Canon and they had no idea that this was an issue with the MKII and EVU...

->> hey hey....go it....seems that if you depress the shutter as you try to connect the camer a via the camera settings pull down the message reads " CAMERA BUSY>>>TRY AGAIN " hit the shutter button to turn the LCD on the camera off and it should be fine.
there is a problem here that Canon needs to fix....hey I just switched like last week....so I am use to this kind of stuff. |

| ->> They should be aware of the problem. It has been discussed on Rob Galbraith and I thought Chuck Westfall had commented on the issue...but I would assume he has read about it if nothing else. |
