Can't view jpg on Mac OS X

->> Hi folks.
To all of you with Mac OS 10.3 Panther or similar, I am struggling to view jpg or nef files straight out of my D2H. I've copied with NV File Transfer and with Finder, and tried to view in both Nikon View 6.2.1 and Photoshop Elements2.
Nikon View hangs, and Elements says "File is damaged (corrupted or truncated).
I've copied old files from an archive CD and they are ok. I've formatted the Lexar CF card in camera and reshot test shots, still the same. I've got the D2H set to RAW+JPGLargeFine
I have just switched from PC to Mac (iBook G4) so I'm a little lost.
I've searched the message board but can't recognise anything that sounds the same.
Can anyone throw any light on this?
Thanks all

->> Are there any Mac wizards out there that can help with this? I did a shoot today and I'm not trusting my Mac to view them at the moment, I'm loading them onto a loan Windows PC first to make sure I have a copy.
I'm going to give iView a try, but any help is appreciated....
Thanks

->> So can you take the same CF card and copy/open them on a PC no problem? Have you tried a different card? Or a different brand card? Different reader?
Here's what I would do. Make sure all your software is up to date. (Click on the blue apple at the top and scroll down to Software Update. Latest OS is 10.3.6) Not sure what brand reader you are using but if it's Lexar, go to thier site and make sure you have the latest drivers. There were early issues with the newest firewire reader & OSX and they released a new driver.
Stop using Nikon View until you solve the problem. I only copy files in the finder by dragging the proper folder to my harddrive. I view them with Photo Mechanic but I guess you can use the Photoshop viewer. Try doing that with different cards and you should figure it out. I would guess a bad CF card is causing the problem.
Also consider buying Mac OSX 10.3- The Missing Manual. Great book to bring you up to speed on the mac. Keep us posted. |

->> Matt, thanks for the ideas. One of them was spot on - the card reader.
Thanks to this board, and a non-member named Kirk Baker from Camera Bits Inc. I was made aware that Dazzle card readers (now supported by Zio ) have known serious problems with Mac OS X. I used my Lexar Jumpshot reader and all is now fine. Phew...
Thanks all for reading, thanks Kirk and Matt for taking the time to reply. Hopefully someone searching for a similar problem on this board in the future will come across this message.

| ->> My pleasure. Good to hear you are back up and running. One a side note, I hope Kirk was able to sell you on the benefits of the Photo Mechanic viewer. I highly recommend it. Cheers. |
