->> Does anyone use FotoMagico?

http://www.fotomagico.com/

Seems a little expensive, but if it does what it promises could make this type of presentation a snap.

->> hey thad,

i was recently turned onto Apimac -- and if you have a mac, it's definitely the way to go over the old standard and antiquated Quickshow program.

->> For the opening faculty slide show, I used Apple's iMovie to assemble the show, set it to music, put in the titles and transitions. It was output to digital tape and projected.

Many of the other presentations at The Luau were done using a variety of different programs, like Final Cut Express, Final Cut Pro (both like iMovie digital editing programs), iView Media Pro, PowerPoint (boo!) and Photo Mechanic.

There are many slide show apps out there and what you intend to do with the presentation would determine which is best.

I love the control that the video programs (iMovie, Final Cut Express and Pro) allow. Especially synching up to sound or music.

But for simple auto - run or click through presentations, programs like iView Media Pro, iPhoto and Graphic Converter all have very nice slide show functions.

There are many, many, many slide show programs out there. The ones I mentioned above are all programs that have several functions (iView for instance is an asset management software) but have slide presentation capabilities.

Run a search on versiontrack.com and a ton of them can be found.

Funny ... every year after The Luau I get many emails with questions asking about how the slide presentations were done. I have even thought seriously about offering a breakout class at The Luau on slide show authoring ...

Mahalo!

Robert Hanashiro.

->> I have to recommend (for PC only) a program called "Pictures to Exe" from these guys: http://www.wnsoft.com/
It's under $30, and offers a _lot_ of control. One of the handiest features is the ability to time a batch of slides to fit perfectly in the time of one song, or you can individually control the timing of each slide.

After your show is built, it is saved as a single .exe file (with the images, music, everything included in the one .exe file) that can be played stand-alone on any PC. It makes it really simple to share a show or prepare one for a non-technical co-worker.

You can also output a show as .AVI video format and burn to a DVD, create a start-up screen with buttons for people to choose different shows or show options, and a host of other features.

Obviously if you are sending presentations out to clients who exclusively use Macs, you'll need to make another choice, but in the PC world, I love this program and have used it for nearly two years.

Other than liking the program, I have no connection to the company that offers this software.

->> Something else that is really cool and cheap, if you use windows Xp, is the XP Plus! Digital edition, its like $10 and has a program call Photo Story, you can add as many photos as you want, add music, set fades and transitions, etc in about 15 minutes.......Pretty slick.

->> There are so many pieces of software that do this stuff. It's just amazing. I like PicToExe (as Ted mentioned) myself but that's just me. I'm finding that putting a slideshow in DVD format is becoming quite popular because now they can sit in their living room, pop in the DVD and watch the show on their insanely large big screen television and go "Ooo Ahhh" during their parties. Dad's slideshow of the family summer vacation just got better because of all this software and DVD.

Maybe someone could do an article on slideshows for the newsletter?

I like the fact the it has many transitions and dissolves and allows you to move pictures in all directions. This gives you much more control than just a plain static show.

->> Bert is correct this subject comes back up on the boards.

Below is a link to an outline I made-up to use at the www.WCNPA.ca conference last April, I confirmed the info I had and added a bunch more using info gathered from a post I started here on SS almost a year ago; link below.

The information is getting a little dated and needs a really good update at this point because there are new slideshow making programs popping-up all the time. Some are good and some are not so good. If you have the computer to run it using DVD authoring program is probably the way to go for the most part. BTW; the links and information below features very few DVD authoring programs as I was looking for non-DVD authoring programs at the time.

For PC only I have not found a better program than ProShow. Lots of toys to use with this program that is very affordable and makes great slideshows with all the controls for transitions and music you need to make dynamitic shows.

You just might find some good information below if you follow the links.
