->> I was in a hurry editing photos at a last minute dealine, and while using Photo Mechanic, I noticed the menu bars at the top were gone. The menu that reads "View" "Edit", and "File", you know...all the important ones. Without them I can no longer tag all my shots, then hit
View ----> Tagged Images -----> select tagged -----> batch caption ----> edit in PS.....
You know, just all the important stuff....
Have I made this clear? The menu is GONE!!!!! Just has the folder name and thats it....I've been getting by with a few keyboard shortcuts, but I want my menu back.....
Any help would be great,
Thanks,
Mike |

->> Mike, have you done a reboot?
I've seen that happen with PM before. And, with Photoshop. It's always fixed itself after a reboot.
If that doesn't help, then we'll call for an old priest and a young priest .... |

| ->> Mike, I've never had that happen before but I would assume a simple solution could be a uninstall - reinstall. Let us know if you figure anything out. |

->> Mike...
I think you are using the Windows version right? Anyways, what I believe you did was you slid the whole menu bar off the screen. I played around with my copy and replicated your problem. I just closed the program and reopened it...then a small box appeared with the menu options. I then click-hold and dragged it up top. You can also click-drag to set the menu bar on the bottom or right side... |

| ->> If your using the Mac version there is a small oval button in the upper right hand corner on the title bar directly across the the "traffic light" (the small red, yellow and green buttons) This button toggles the menu bar on and off. |

->> Im using a PC, and I think I may have, if you can believe it, dragged the menu as Andrew discribed, and clicked on the X. Why you ask?!!! I didn't realize what I was clicking, and in the heat of the moment, I clicked away my beloved menu never to see it again. I did close the program, and it DID NOT come back.....
I may reinstall, |

->> The toolbar button on the Mac (the one on the upper-right) of a window just toggles the toolbar, not the menu bar.
If Mike is using a Mac, he's seeing the menubar disappear because he can't see the File, Edit, Image or View menus. That happens sometimes when an app gets confused. Often you can move the mouse over the appropriate spots on the menu bar and they'll drop down though they're invisible. But, at that point the menubar manager is hosed and needs a poke in the eye. |

->> Before reinstalling, wander over to robgalbraith.com, into the Photo Browser forum and leave a note for Kirk Baker.
Kirk is the man to talk to about anything technical with PM - he's the go-to guy. He's extremely good at supporting the product, and if there's a bug he's the guy who'll fix it. |

| ->> On a PC, if you've moved your menu off the screen you can get it back by pressing Alt-Space, which will display a windowing menu - if you've moved the title bar too far you will not see this menu. Now, press M and you should get a four pointed arrow that will allow you to move the window with the keyboard arrows. Press the down arrow a few times and the menus should reappear. |

->> I would strongly advise that no one else do as Andrew has done, and follow my footsteps to see just how it feels to have no menu.
How are you holding up Andrew? Get it back yet?! Its like in the movie Dumb and Dumber, when Lloyd sees the frost on the pole, thinks about it, probably knows his tongue will stick, and licks it anyways..... |

->> Here's the cure, thanks to Kirk Baker, a programer at Camera Bits, who tracked me down to help me out.
Here's what worked for me......
(PC instructions...)
Make sure you quit Photo Mechanic.
First click on the Start button in the
task bar. There is an item on the start
menu titled "Run...". Choose it. Then
when the Run dialog comes up, type
RegEdit into the "Open:" text field.
Then click the OK button. The Registry
Editor will open. On the left hand side
is a pane that has a tree control in it.
At the top is "My Computer",
underneath it are several entries. One
is titled "HKEY_CURRENT_USER". Click
on the '+' sign to the left of it. It will
expand and show a bunch of items.
One is titled "Software". Click on the
'+' sign to the left of "Software". It
will expand and show even more
items. You'll see an entry titled
"Camera Bits, Inc." Open it. Then
you'll see an entry titled "Photo
Mechanic" Open it. Then you'll see an
entry titled "Workspace state". Click
on it. In the right hand side of the
screen, you'll see a key titled
"Workspace". Click on it. It will
highlight. Go to the Edit menu and
choose the "Delete" menu item. When
it asks you if you want to delete this
value, click "Yes".
Restart Photo Mechanic. The menubar
should be back.
If you want me to talk you through it,
please send me your phone number
and I'd be happy to call you and
explain everything as you do it.
Sorry for the inconvenience,
-Kirk
