->> All: I've been shooting for Wireimage.com since the spring, and generally appreciate their ability to get me credentialed for events I want to shoot. However, they use FotoStation to recognize captioning, and I'm told by their photo editors that captions must be readable by Photoshop CS AND by Fotostation. I've worked with Fotostation and HATE IT; I get different visual representations of the image if edited in Photoshop and then edited in FotoStation; I want to rely on the edits in Photoshop since that's so universal. However, I'm told by Wireimage that the captions must be recognized by Photoshop AND FotoStation or the images won't be displayed online. I've tried PhotoMechanic, Breezebrowser, IView, and from the perspective of Wireimage, they want ONLY Fotostation/and Photoshop captioning. I HATE Fotostation - it's not nearly as user-friendly or intuitive as Breezebrowser, but they tell me Breezebrowser isn't recognized by their photo editors in both Photoshop and FotoStation. Does anyone know of any other program where I can caption images and conveniently edit the image via Photoshop? I also have Portfolio, and have some indication that IView may accomplish both goals, but haven't yet figureed out how. The goal: get captions readable in Photoshop and FotoStation, without having to embed them using Fotostation. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

->> When you caption in photomechanic it is automatically recognized by photoshop as well as other programs, quite possibly fotostation.
There is also an SCC captioning plug in for photoshop which automatically applies the cutline and header feilds to photoshop file info as well as other programs like photomechanic and again possibly fotostation.

->> Leslie,
I'd go a different way from your questions...why not learn more on FotoStation. I've used FotoStation as long as I've used Photoshop, years, and I like FotoStation allot more for some of its functions.

Batch captioning, applying IPTC, re-naming and editing, sizing, quick color correction and sharpening, I find much faster in FotoStation than through Photoshop.

A larger factor, for me anyway is that quite a few of the major photo/wire services I shoot for use FotoStation and virtually all my European and International clients use it.

From you post it sounds like you just don't know all of it's functionality. Remember it's just another tool.

->> Leslie, I use FotoStation for all my editing. I select, tag and mark images in FotoStation, drag them into PhotoShop, tone, crop and rename them. Then, back in Fotostation, I add my cutline, either by tagging images and adding info to all images selected, or individually. I know it comes down to personal preference, but I've found FotoStation easy to use.

->> Frank: They told me they could read the caption in Photoshop, but not in Fotostation, both of which are apparently required. Same problem with Breezebrowser. I've spent the last two days messing with PhotoMechanic and Breezebrowser, looking for a setting that would make either one of them work in both as required by Wireimage. So far no luck. What am I doing wrong?
