| ->> what? what? what? there was a previous Thread that had a 12GB CF card for $10,000. now they have specs for CF cards bigger that my laptops harddrive? i guess the increase in size is needed because the release of 30mp SLR is not too far in the future. i cant believe it! |

| ->> Wow...theres some ones on there that can hold 2TB! My god, why would you ever need that much memory on a card? |

| ->> I think I would draw the line when a CF card costs more than my camera and lenses.....with these new cards coming out it will just make 512's and 1gb's alot cheaper, and that's fine with me. |

->> There's people who will buy the biggest card they can afford simply because it's the biggest. (Make your own jokes about them compensating for other inadequacies here.)
When it comes time to download that chip and they're on deadline is when the fun will begin.
Imagine the storage problems they'll encounter ... a drive smaller than their chip ... not enough DVDs to back it up... it'll happen.
And, we'll see it posted here under "HELP!!! MY CHIP IS TOO BIG!" heh heh. :-) |

->> Uhm, 2TB is a "maximum" capacity. I haven't seen very many 128GB CF cards, have you?
The 2TB limit is based on sector size and how many bits are used in memory addressing. It has nothing to do with the actual functual capacity of the cards that are created. |

->> ....it's all just so absurd i can't take it...
oh wait.. if you used it for a digital back that was shooting at 100mp (sometime in the future) or something larger in format.. then it might come in handy, if you can't tether the body. hhhmmmmmm........ |

| ->> Could be a big advantage for video producers/shooters. Think about it, out in the desert with all that dust, and no moving parts. Sweet. And if the camera manufacturers brought back pellicle mirrors and we had sensors that could be read that fast, the number of fps on an SLR would only be limited by how fast the shutter can recock. And if it was a CCD, the shutter wouldn't be needed in the first place. 16 megapixel, 40 FPS cameras would need 2TB cards. ;-P |

->> Something to keep in mind is that by the time the 2TB card is actually a reality all the rest of the computer technology will have advanced equally as far. Hundreds of TB hdd's, TB's of RAM, THz processors, several Gigapixel digicams.. hehe..
Remember that back in the day when a 32MB flash card was impressive, a Ghz processor was unheard of. Nowadays a 32 MB card wouldn't be worth the space it takes up in my CF wallet.

| ->> Does a 2TB CF card go through a washer and dryer cycle as easily as my 256MB card? I hate it when I leave them in my pocket on wash day. |

| ->> My suspicion is that we'll have laptop running off of flash cards someday. The computers could be designed to use a modular drive that would be easily expanded based on your needs similar to adding RAM. Rather than Windows coming on CD, it would be preloaded on a flash card with DRM embedded on it. If Windows becomes corrupted, you just take it to the local computer store where they would test it and either trash it or reload the software. Flash memory-based laptops would reduce their size and weight. Flash memory is also more durable than the small drives currently used. A hardware design like this would also allow you to use your computer hardware with different OS cards. Just swap Windows with Linux and boot the computer. I believe there's also technology around the corner that could make boot up a matter of a second or two as well. We may see it all come to market at once. Who knows? |
